Every 90 minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)  — a progressive and fatal disease that slowly robs people of their ability to move, speak, and breathe. There is currently no cure. Coast to Coast 4 ALS was created to change that. This extraordinary effort brings together riders, families, researchers, and supporters for a 4,000-mile cycling journey across 12 states  to raise awareness and critical funding for ALS research and patient support. Inspired by the courage of Laura Olds , and the resilience of the ALS community, this ride turns every mile into momentum for change. Follow John on Facebook and Instagram About John Cleary  I started cycling when I was twenty-six and began entering international distance triathlons.  I developed a passion for cycling and began following The Race Across America. I dreamed of riding across the country one day. After working for 15 years in law enforcement with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, I retired and began planning my ride across the United States. My ride across the country took on a much deeper meaning when a dear friend, my best friend’s wife, was diagnosed with ALS. Seeing someone I care about face such a devastating disease made me want to do more than ride. It made me want to help in some way. When my close friends created Coast2Coast4ALS, I knew I had found the perfect avenue to turn my journey into a mission. This ride is more than a challenge. It’s a tribute to the ALS community, and to everyone who refuses to give up hope. I’m riding for them, and for a future without ALS.
