Established in 1979 as Child Relief and You, now Child Rights and You, CRY was started by Rippan Kapur who dreamt of ensuring happier childhoods for India’s children. In just over 4 decades, CRY has been able to create a positive impact on the lives of over 4 million children in the age group of 0-18 years, with having presence in 19 states.
Working with some of the most marginalized and vulnerable children, within their communities and their family structures - CRY aims to address the root causes of why children are kept away from their basic rights and to find solutions that are sustainable.
The broad areas of CRY's work include:
Health and Nutrition
- CRY works to ensure that children get access to proper healthcare and facilities.
Education
- The project team not only works with children and their families to help them understand the crucial role education plays in breaking out of the circle of poverty but also works to activate schools and strengthen existing ones.
Protection
- This is one of the other areas that CRY takes on across its programmatic areas and this work is centered around child labour, child marriage, trafficking, and ensuring children are not exploited and vulnerable.
Participation
- CRY also works towards providing children with a platform where they can voice their concerns and issues and support each other.

Protect Childhoods. Stop Child Labour.
Dear Supporter, Summer holidays bring joy to children across the country. But for many underprivileged children, this break can mark the beginning of something far more serious. What starts as “just a holiday job” often turns into a permanent dropout, costing them their childhood and future. Like it almost did for Bavishya. She loved school so much that every year, before leaving for the holidays, she would say goodbye to her school and was always excited to come back as it reopened. But one summer, everything changed. Her school was shut down for highway construction, and her parents, who were the daily wage earners, were struggling. With no school to return to, she had to help earn for the family, and just like that, her dreams were almost lost. Thankfully, CRY stepped in, and the partners reached out, counselled her parents, connected them to government schemes, and brought Bavishya to CRY's support classes. Soon, she was back in school. She studied hard, completed her education, and today, she’s a lab technician, supporting her family and inspiring others as a CRY volunteer. This World Day Against Child Labour, let’s rewrite more stories like Bavishya. Because it’s education, not labour, that shapes a child’s future. Together, we can end child labour—one child, one classroom at a time 💛 With gratitude,

This Mother's Day, support a mother's promise!
Dear Supporter, Every mother carries a quiet promise in her heart —To protect. To nurture. To give her child a better life. But for thousands of mothers across India, this promise is not easy to keep. Poverty, child marriage, unsafe environments, and the lack of access to education often stand in their way. At CRY, we meet these mothers — women who may not have finished school themselves, but who work tirelessly to make sure their children do. They are the first changemakers in their children’s lives. They fight every day to keep them safe, in school, and full of hope. This Mother’s Day, stand with her. When you support her child’s education, you honour her efforts and help her build a better future for her family and community. She becomes the catalyst for change, keeping promises alive, dreams intact, and futures bright. With gratitude,
