Build Up, Inc. (“BUI”) is a nonprofit capacity builder that supports the leadership of women and people of color and incubates and fiscally sponsors charitable projects and organizations that work with under-resourced and invisibilized communities around the world. It is a member of a federated group of companies comprised of Build Up Advisory Group, The Campbell Law Firm, and Build Up, Inc. and focused on transforming life outcomes for vulnerable and marginalized communities.

A. Nicole Campbell founded BUI to work only with people and projects that pursue brave, social change. We want to interrupt cycles of poverty, injustice, and inequity and problem-solve with marginalized and vulnerable communities. As you can imagine, we envision what is possible and work hard to achieve it together.

Our Mission

BUI empowers women and BIPOC-led organizations building bravely to bring about sustained improvement in the well-being of historically invisibilized communities by acting as a fiscal sponsor, convener, and connector and providing capacity-building resources.

Our Vision

To bravely facilitate and support socio-economic change and equity around the world to ensure that historically vulnerable communities are removed from the margins.

Sankofa Now! Fund the Foundation with Build Up, Inc.

Only 2% of U.S. philanthropy supports Black-led organizations. This Black Philanthropy Month, under the global theme Sankofa Now! , Build Up, Inc. is working to change that. Founded by a Black woman and governed by people of color, Build Up, Inc. provides the fiscal sponsorship and capacity-building infrastructure that women- and BIPOC-led initiatives need to thrive. We break down systemic barriers and equip grassroots leaders with the tools, systems, and networks to scale their vision for justice and equity. Our specific decolonizing fiscal sponsorship approach addresses systemic barriers, empowering brilliant, community-rooted leaders across Sub-Saharan Africa, the U.S., and the Caribbean who are often early-stage, under-resourced, and developing real solutions with limited resources. Sankofa Now! calls us to: Remember the traditions of collective care and community investment that have sustained Black communities for generations. Reclaim the power of Black-led change by ensuring leaders have the infrastructure to grow and lead on their own terms. Rise together to build an equitable, just, and thriving future through bold, sustained investment in Black leadership. Our model is rooted in equity, inclusivity, and community empowerment. We don’t just hold funds, we provide the legal, financial, and operational backbone that sustains movements, from bookkeeping and compliance to strategic planning, program development, and culturally responsive leadership coaching. We tailor our support to each project’s unique needs, ensuring grassroots leaders can grow on their own terms while staying connected to a network of peers, resources, and mentors. Every $25 you give this Black Philanthropy Month helps Build Up, Inc. deliver capacity-building workshops for our existing project leaders — equipping them with the tools, strategies, and confidence to strengthen their organizations and scale their impact. When you invest in Build Up, Inc., you honor the past, reclaim the present, and rise for the future. Let’s fund what sustains movements — and make “Sankofa Now!” a reality.
