The Belgian Society for Neurosurgery (BSN) is a non-profit scientific organization founded in 1978 to promote excellence in neurosurgery in Belgium and abroad. Today, the Society represents more than 200 members, including certified neurosurgeons and residents in training.
The BSN is dedicated to advancing scientific research, education, professional development, and international collaboration in the field of neurosurgery. Through annual congresses, scientific meetings, and educational initiatives, the Society supports the continuous development of high-quality neurosurgical care and innovation.
In addition to its scientific mission, the BSN contributes to preserving the historical legacy of neurosurgery. The Society actively promotes initiatives that honor key figures and milestones in the history of neurological surgery, including the work and humanitarian contributions of Harvey Cushing during World War I in Belgium.
Several BSN members are actively involved in European and international neurosurgical organizations, reinforcing the Society’s role as an important voice for Belgian neurosurgery worldwide. In recognition of its longstanding contribution, the Society is expected to receive the title of “Royal Belgian Society for Neurosurgery” in 2028.
