The Antonelli Foundation for Biodiversity Research and Conservation Insamlingsstiftelse is a non-profit organization established in 2023 by Anna and Alexandre Antonelli. It is based in Sweden and operates under Swedish foundation law. The Foundation was founded with a clear purpose: to support the discovery, understanding and protection of the world’s biodiversity.

At its core, the Foundation is about advancing and communicating scientific knowledge and using such knowledge to better conserve and restore diverse ecosystems. Much of the diversity of life on Earth remains unknown, and without better knowledge, we cannot hope to restore or conserve it effectively. In its initial phase, the Foundation is focusing on the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, one of the most biodiverse and threatened regions on the planet. Here, it supports field-based research and promotes ecological restoration in ways that are informed by science and grounded in collaboration, including local communities.

The Foundation operates under the public-facing name Hidden Universe: Biodiversity (HUB). This identity reflects the spirit of exploration and curiosity that drives the work, as well as the belief that discovery and action must go hand in hand. In Brazil, much of its work is implemented in partnership with its Brazilian sister organization, Fundação Antonelli para Pesquisa e Conservação da Biodiversidade.

The Antonelli Foundations aim to support few projects with high potential of making long-lasting positive impact on the environment and society.

ARAÇÁ PROJECT

(Atlantic Forest Research And Conservation Alliance)

The goal of this project is to understand and protect Brazil’s Atlantic Rainforest through world-class research, conservation and training. This is one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, but only 8% of the original forest remains. ARAÇÁ is the flagship project of the Antonelli Foundations, to which the vast majority of funds are directed
