ADOLESCENTS AND YOUTH FRIENDLY SERVICES POST PANDEMIC.

Background; The young people are categorized into a number of stages of growth and development right from birth upto transition into adulthood. However, through out all these stages, the adolescents and youth commonly known as teenagers that stretch from the age of 9 to 18 or sometimes upto early 20s are known to be the most flagile to a number of social tragedies and abuse which can be inflicted on them by fellow youth or sometimes irresponsible adults of the society as they are always inquisitive to discover themselves as young people. Some of these traps include; all forms of sexual abuse like rape, incest, indecent assault, teenage pregnancy, being forced into early marriage, provision of basic needs for gain, physical and psychological trauma, deprivation of basic life provisions and need such as basic guidance, giving a listening ear to their societal challenges, education among others. All these leaves the children wounded either spiritually, psychologically or physically and drags them into a life of depression or severe discomfort in society which can only be intercepted by giving them hope through mature talk or sometimes going extra miles to provide for them some basic needs that lack of such could have pushed them to the walls of life. The global pandemic experience has multiplied these problems beyond what has ever been realized and thus increasing the need to actively involve the society in holding the hands of the young people and helping them overcome the effect, trauma, stigma and pain of such abuses  that could end up completely destroying their resourcefulness to the globe. As Living Proof family, we have come up with initiative of establishing and intergrating comprehensive adolescents and youth friendly services in our work plan at the health centre and as well reach out to the communities as far as we can afford, to look for these traumatised children, diagnose their social challenge and figure out how to help them out with a consensus from both the children and the parents or guardians. The scope of the project: The project shall have its operational base in Butebi, Mityana but will cover the victims of abuse in all the Districts of Uganda to enable meet its projected impact to the benefitiaries. Section B: Project justification. What is the actual problem? Statistically, in the year 2020 Uganda police force annual crime report indicate that; 14,230 children were defiled; girls (14,080) mainly bore the brunt. The statistics also revealed that 1,280 defilement victims were children under eight years of age. A further 2,980 minors aged between 9 and 14 were also abused. The report further indicates that 120 children were defiled by their parents and several hundreds by relatives and other thousands by strangers.  Teenage pregnancy and school drop out has been registered in the highest number compared to the past decades in the recent times. The statistics above is far less compared to the actual reality on ground as a majority of the victims do not report their cases to the police either due to threat from the victim or fear of stigma from the society. In the aftermath of the abuse, these victims contract urinary tract infections, organ damages, sexually transmitted diseases, early pregnancy, others perform unsafe abortion , others are forced into child marriages and all these needs intervention either therapeutic treatment and counseling or basic provision for teenage mothers. Those who emerged out of the abuse without visible damage have got a torn sould and a woundes heart with a traumatised mind that needs to be identified wheather from villsges, schools, churches, health centres or wherever possible and be offered a rehabilitation service to get over the incidence and be focused to their life goals with ease. That is why we are initiating this project post pandemic to penetrate the communities deeply, identify these people and help them coup up with whatever abuses they have gone through and their impacts in their lives. Supporting Older Persons, Health, Social Care, and Rights!

The Andy Kind Heart Foundation is a registered NGO operating across Uganda, dedicated to improving the lives of older persons, vulnerable women, children, and orphans. Since 2014, the foundation has provided essential medical care, education, nutrition, and home-based support to hundreds of thousands of disadvantaged individuals. Despite global aging trends and increasing life expectancy, older people—especially in rural Uganda—face severe neglect, struggling to access basic needs and care. While children receive considerable attention, the elderly are often overlooked, despite their rights and invaluable wisdom. Our project aims to transform elder care in Uganda through: Community education on elder challenges and solutions. Establishing specialized geriatric care centers beyond typical hospital services. Launching income-generating food security initiatives that support nutrition for elders and empower youth economically. Creating an emergency response system with communication links, standby ambulances, and trained geriatric health professionals. We seek $1,160,400 to launch this project, building on our proven track record of successful community health and social support programs. Our vision is to ensure every older person in Uganda, regardless of location or status, has access to professional health care, dignified living conditions, and economic opportunities. The urgency is clear: Uganda’s aging population is growing, yet no specialized health or social care systems exist to meet their complex needs. This project will fill that critical gap, offering comprehensive support to help elders live with dignity and security. Our experienced team, led by a project director and supported by health professionals, will oversee implementation, monitoring, and evaluation to ensure impactful and sustainable outcomes. We invite donors to join us in creating a future where Uganda’s elderly are respected, cared for, and empowered as vital members of society.
