Windy City ToolBank strengthens communities by providing nonprofits, schools, and mission-driven organizations with access to tools, equipment, and resources they need to do their work safely, efficiently, and affordably.
Instead of every organization purchasing and storing its own tools, we operate a shared inventory model. Members borrow items ranging from hand tools and power tools to event equipment, landscaping tools, disaster-response supplies, AV gear, and specialty items that support everything from youth programs and senior services to environmental projects and animal welfare efforts.
By removing the cost barrier to tools and equipment, we help organizations redirect limited budgets toward programs, staff, and services that directly impact people. This approach saves nonprofits thousands of dollars each year while increasing their capacity to serve more neighbors.
Our work supports a wide range of community efforts, including:
- Education and youth development programs
- Veteran-led and veteran-serving organizations
- Environmental stewardship, parks, and conservation projects
- Food security initiatives and community gardens
- Housing, homelessness, and neighborhood revitalization
- Animal rescue and welfare organizations
- Community events, cultural programs, and civic engagement
- Disaster preparedness, response, and recovery across the Midwest
In addition to everyday lending, Windy City ToolBank plays a critical role in disaster response through ToolBank Disaster Services. When communities are impacted by severe weather, fires, or other emergencies, we help deploy tools and equipment to trusted nonprofit partners so volunteers can safely clear debris, repair homes, distribute supplies, and support long-term recovery.
Every dollar donated multiplies in impact. A single contribution helps unlock thousands of dollars in tool access for hundreds of organizations, empowering volunteers and nonprofit leaders to build safer, stronger, and more resilient communities across the Chicago region and beyond.
