Every contribution, no matter the amount, can make a meaningful difference. Around the world, millions of people walk long distances every day just to collect water for their families, most often women and girls. Many spend hours carrying heavy containers across rough terrain, sacrificing time for school, work, and safety simply to provide water for their households. To raise awareness for the global water crisis, a group of seventh graders is coming together to complete a 3.7 mile walk (the average distance women and girls in the developing world walk) carrying jars of water to represent the daily journeys millions of people make just to access water for their families. Clean water is the foundation for health, education, and opportunity, yet more than 2 billion people worldwide still do not have safe water close to home. Unsafe water and poor sanitation contribute to nearly 1.4 million deaths every year, according to WaterAid.
