Partners In Health is a social justice organization that responds to the moral imperative to provide high-quality health care globally to those who need it most. We strive to ease suffering by providing a comprehensive model of care that includes access to food, transportation, housing, and other key components of healing. We bring the benefits of modern medicine to those who have suffered from the overt and subtle injustices of the world, in the past and in the present. We refuse to accept that any life is worth less than another.

Our mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. By establishing long-term relationships with sister organizations based in settings of poverty, Partners In Health strives to achieve two overarching goals: to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair.

We draw on the resources of the world’s leading medical and academic institutions and on the lived experience of the world’s poorest and sickest communities. At its root, our mission is both medical and moral. It is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone.

When our patients are ill and have no access to care, our team of health professionals, scholars, and activists will do whatever it takes to make them well—just as we would do if a member of our own families or we ourselves were ill.

Our Core Beliefs:
-    All human lives have the same value, and every human being has the inalienable right to be healthy to fulfill their potential.
-    The right to health is not the only right held by our patients. Other fundamental human rights are interrelated and just as inalienable.
-    All people need to stand in solidarity with those who find themselves at the margins of modern society.
-    The playing field needs to be leveled for those individuals who are born at a disadvantage (equity vs equality).
-    Injustice is not accidental but a direct result of structural violence and oppression. We can fight injustice by changing those dynamics.
-    It is our moral call to action to expose social injustice and to work toward correcting those systemic forces that create inequalities, no matter how impossible or challenging this task might look.

Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is first to the frontlines providing fresh meals in response to crises. Applying our model of quick action, leveraging local resources, and adapting in real time, WCK has served hundreds of millions nourishing meals around the world. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes with the urgency of now to start cooking meals for people in need. WCK serves comforting meals to survivors of disasters quickly by partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of local restaurants, food trucks, or kitchens. During public health crises like the COVID-19 outbreak, kids and families on the brink of poverty are disproportionately impacted. When schools are closed and hourly wages are scaled back, the service we provide is even more critical. Yet we're facing unprecedented challenges ourselves, with rapid changes to our volunteer workforce and distribution networks.

As our community responds to the COVID-19 outbreak, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley remains committed to our mission knowing that our most vulnerable community members are deeply and disproportionately impacted by public crises such as this. We are in ongoing communication with our partners, staff and volunteers to maintain safe practices that will ensure nutritious food continues to flow into the community.

On Monday, March 16, 2020 food banks were officially named by the California Department of Public Health as an essential service provider. Because of this important inclusion in the CDPH’s guidelines, we expect to remain fully operational so we can continue serving our community.

Encompassing the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and eight hospital campuses in the New York metropolitan area, as well as a large, regional ambulatory footprint, Mount Sinai is internationally acclaimed for its excellence in research, patient care, and education across a range of specialties. The Food Bank continues to do the day-in and day-out job of making sure vulnerable neighbors get the food they need. Now, we are putting solutions in place, one by one, to be able to continue providing food and helping our community prepare for whatever challenge the COVID-19 presents.

Every year, the Food Bank works with poverty and hunger researchers to try to understand the food needs of low-income San Francisco and Marin residents. This report, called ‘Missing Meals in San Francisco and Marin’ is a look at the meals we provide to our community’s low-income residents through nonprofit and government food programs, and how many more meals are still needed to fill the gap.

This research provides a rigorous assessment of trends in the food landscape in both San Francisco and Marin Counties, and the role of government and nonprofit food providers in meeting ongoing food needs.  The report finds that there are a staggering 35 million missing meals in our service area, meaning that despite historic gains in our local social safety net, we still have much more work to do in our fight to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin.

Founded in 2018, 101 Fund's goal is to collect 10 million € for saving 1 million lives by empowering intensive care medicine (ICM) thanks to the deployment of a 3-part program in our worldwide network of ICUs (1,200 centres in 66 countries): BETTER CARE Develop SATISFACTION 101, a data-driven quality-improvement program to caregivers, to share best practices and pilot their systematic implementation. BETTER RESEARCH Fund innovative high-quality clinical research, basic science and artificial intelligence programs to identify best practices. Our mission is to safeguard public health by improving air quality, promoting evidence-based Long COVID and COVID-19 prevention strategies, and empowering communities through education, advocacy, utilization of existing tools, and developing new tools and technologies using emerging technology and methods. We strive to reduce the impact of airborne pollutants and infectious diseases by advocating for the widespread adoption of HEPA and MERV filtration systems, supporting mask usage, disseminating reliable information about the long-term harm caused by COVID-19 and the effectiveness of clean air, and introducing collaborative and in-house developed tools using emerging technology.

Noora Health is focused on improving patient outcomes in public health systems in India, Bangladesh, and Indonesia by training the family caregivers of patients admitted to government hospitals - making them an integral part of healthcare delivery. They develop high quality training and education materials (videos, flipcharts etc) delivered through a train the trainer model for healthcare professionals to use in-hospital to upskill and train the family and patient. They also have a post-discharge follow-up on mobile (via WhatsApp, teletraining, and voice messages) that allows them to share content with families when they return home, be there in a moment of need, answer questions etc. 

They have seen remarkable outcomes – in a cohort of patients, the program reduced post-surgical cardiac complications by 71%, maternal complications by 12%, newborn complications by 16%, newborn readmissions by 56%, and newborn mortality by 18%. 

Noora Health is in the scale-up phase of their work, aiming to reach 70 million caregivers in the next five years (they recently surpassed 3 million), and they are eager to leverage their digital capabilities to achieve this with high fidelity to the quality they are known for.

SEEDS (Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society, www.seedsindia.org) is a 30+ years experienced humanitarian organisation that enables community resilience through practical solutions in the areas of disaster readiness, response and rehabilitation.

Since 1994, the organisation has worked extensively on every major disaster in the Indian subcontinent – grafting innovative technology on to traditional wisdom. SEEDS is recognized as one of the important humanitarian actors in India and Asia. It has reached out to families affected by disasters and climate stresses; strengthened and rebuilt schools and homes; and has invariably put its faith in skill building, planning and communications to foster long-term resilience. SEEDS is also India’s first agency to be certified for the global Core Humanitarian Standards – an international certification system for quality and accountability in humanitarian response.

We extend our commitment to voluntarily contribute to the goals set for 2030 in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR), Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the Paris Agreement.

### Our Approach to Grantmaking
We're not designed to be a frequent grantmaker; we are primarily an investment account until we reach an extraordinary time and opportunity. Until those moments arise, each year we will make small grants at less than 1% of the Fund's size to the best available opportunities we are able to find in that year. These small grants will build up our grant-making infrastructure and track record. Grant decisions will be made by a dedicated management committee, all with a strong network and expertise on how well-timed grant-making can safeguard the future.

The problem: In Kenya, women are significantly disadvantaged both socially and economically. 

About Buildher The problem: In Kenya, women are significantly disadvantaged both socially and economically. Over half the female population lives below the poverty line ($3.10/day), less than 50% of girls are educated beyond primary school level, and young women in urban areas are more likely to be unemployed than any other group. Meanwhile, Kenya has an alarming lack of skilled designers and construction professionals and booming demand for urban development, particularly housing. This high-potential sector is currently male-dominated, with women representing less than 3% of those it employs. By the end of this century, 40% of the global population will reside in Africa. By 2030, more than half of Africa's population will reside in cities. We are working to ensure that women actively contribute to and benefit from this urban development. Our solution: Buildher recognizes an opportunity in this problem. We designed and deliver an innovative technical training and employment program exclusively for low income earning women that produces semi-skilled artisans and places them with construction industry employers. Our model is designed by women, for women: It enables participants to earn as they learn, significantly increase their earnings, and secure a professional certification that creates opportunities for career growth. Our goal: Buildher will train and empower thousands of Kenyan women through construction. In the process, we will develop a replicable model for gender integration in our industry to deeply impact hundreds of thousands of women across the continent. Buildher equips disadvantaged women in Kenya with accredited construction skills leading to greater financial prosperity, changing male attitudes and promoting gender equality within the construction industry.

Gram Vikas Trust (GVT) came into existence as a result of the motivation and personal initiative of its founder, Mr. Ramesh Kasondra, to enhance the socio-economic status of the underprivileged people. Hailing from a rural family, the founder was no stranger to hardships faced by the underprivileged. Having overcome economic and social challenges, due to the backing and economic blessings from certain elder society leaders, the founder set out to do his best to make a positive difference in the lives of fellow underprivileged.

Working with a team of committed people, GVT’s aim has been to secure integrated development through people’s participation. We focus on  women in rural areas ,  ex-miners ,  informal and cross border traders ,  domestic workers ,  small scale farmers ,  migrant workers and refugees . Vulnerable communities urgently need fact-based guidelines, practical solutions, as well as linguistically and culturally contextualised information in order to ensure prevention, detection and protection from Coronavirus. Tech Care for All (TC4A) aligns its business with the pursuit of UN Sustainable Development Goal 3, Universal Health Coverage. Like TC4A, WECHA aims to increase people's access to quality care by strengthening the knowledge and skills of healthcare providers.

Tech Care for All and WECHA share the same goal to meet unmet social needs but pursue different operating models. WECHA - We Change Health for All 

The purpose of  Joliet Youth for Malawi:   Access Brings Change , a  donor-advised fund  at KBFUS, is to enhance the lives of people in Malawi, Africa. Partnering with Mary Mudron, our purpose is to bring access to water by creating borehole wells for hundreds of people in rural Malawi, Africa.  Through our friends, Fr. Elizeo Nthalika and Fr. Benedict Zele, we have identified two villages where our help is strongly needed.  Our goal is to start with the Chisawani and Chazemba villages and then move forward with others to provide essential positive changes in the lives of many. Currently, multiple villages with over 600 families share one borehole well.  Hundreds of people travel several hours and many miles to obtain water for their daily necessities.  Sadly, on many days, after walking this long distance these individuals find the well is dry with no available water.   Since 2017 our organization has raised funds to assist with providing clothing, electricity, water supply, books, and with the building of a school.  Currently, our focus is set on creating these two wells in the Chisawani and Chazemba villages which will each cost $5,000. All proceeds will go directly toward the needs of Malawi, Africa.
