Townshend International School is a nonprofit day and boarding school in the south of the Czech Republic. Students from around thirty countries are taught in English, from kindergarten through to Cambridge A Level. Gifts to this page fund one thing: places for students whose families cannot pay the fees.
Who your gift helps
Over the past two academic years the school has carried about $476,000 in need-based scholarships out of its own operating income. The students behind that figure include:
- children displaced by the war in Ukraine, several of whom arrived from unsafe conditions and have stayed on through their secondary schooling
- Czech and regional families facing illness, separation or loss of income, and larger families on limited means
- low-income international families living where English-language schooling is out of reach
- students who came to Townshend after serious difficulty elsewhere
What a gift does
$5,000 keeps a local day student at the school through a difficult year. $20,000 covers a full year for a secondary day student. $40,000 carries a boarding place — tuition, residence and meals — for a student whose family can pay nothing. Gifts of any size go into the same fund.
How awards are made
Awards are assessed by the Director, the Academic Director and the Finance Officer on proven financial need, and reviewed each year with the intention that a student admitted on aid can finish their schooling here. Gifts cannot be directed to a named student, and donors play no part in who receives support.
About the school
Townshend is a Czech public benefit company: trustees and supervisory board members are unremunerated, and no surplus may be distributed to the founder, officers or staff. Fee reductions for the children of staff are an employment benefit, accounted for separately and never funded from this fund. The school is registered with the Czech Ministry of Education and is an accredited Cambridge International Examination Centre.
