They find themselves confronting their own personal traumas, identities and an unexpected revelation that challenges their resilience. Synopsis When Priya and Nina, two women from immigrant families, first met in Chicago, they had no idea that their adversity, strength and visions would one day bring them halfway around the world, inspiring hope and possibility. Nina, a Rwandan Genocide survivor and Priya, an Indian-American born with one hand, found a commonality in overcoming adversity they faced growing up. By confronting their past trauma, the two women find themselves empowered to create a greater future for those around them. Building Hope follows a 5 year journey of Priya and Nina’s social impact work across Chicago and East Africa. It is an interweaving of both women’s challenges as they confront their family history, societal expectations, and sustainability fulfilling their mission to use art to explore the underlying human connection to heal and educate underserved youth. The story unfolds the complex journey of reconnecting with one’s history, establishing their identity, and cementing oneself in a mission far greater than their struggles.
