Production of Puccini's La Boheme

Celebrating 25 years in 2024, Cape Town Opera's vision is to sustainably produce opera of the highest artistic standard, thereby safeguarding opera as part of South Africa’s cultural heritage and providing an aspirational internationally recognized and enduring platform for Africa’s world-class singing and creative talent.

The organization's schedule features a diverse and thrilling repertoire, encompassing opera, operetta, and musicals. It is dedicated to providing unparalleled skills development and hands-on training to aspiring young artists from various regions in the country. Cape Town Opera’s 2024 programming will be balanced and strategic, with a stellar line-up of singers for onstage operas in theatre and unconventional stages.

Equally important are our Youth Development and Education program. We continue to invest in our youth and ensure that they have the opportunity to pursue professional careers in the performing arts.

Support the only professional opera company in Africa!

Thank you so much for considering this request! For any donation of $75 or more, you will be listed in Cape Town Opera's performance programs and annual report as a member of the American Friends Circle for 2025. All contributions are tax deductible in the US. To give you an idea of the value and impact Cape Town Opera makes, here are a few figures for scale and prospective compared to what opera would cost in the US. I would argue the quality of the singing and production are better than most you would experience in America. $420 Funds a talented high school student for a month, to receive weekly voice lessons, music theory and keyboard lessons, meals and safe transportation to and from. $2,500 Funds a title role soloist in a mainstage production $10,000 Funds all the costumes for a mainstage production $25,000 Funds a mid-level staff salary for a YEAR! $47,000 Funds an entire symphony orchestra for all rehearsals and 5 performances of a mainstage production Our most expensive seats to performances cost around $32 while you can always attend for closer to $10, which is now less than a burrito bowl at Chipotle.
