Steampunk Farms Rescue Barn is a 100% volunteer-run animal sanctuary in rural San Diego County — Indigenous and women-led, with roots in reciprocity, resilience, and responsibility.
We rescue farmed animals other organizations won't take. The blind llama. The reactive dog. The pig surrendered with no story and no paperwork. We are the safety net beneath the safety net.
But rescue is only part of what we do. The deeper work is storytelling.
A pig is not just bacon. A chicken is not just an egg factory. A blind llama is not just an oddity to pity. They are individuals with preferences, grudges, friendships, and fears — and once you see them that way, you can't unsee it.
We tell their stories with craft and care — threading science, humor, honesty, and heart into every rescue arc, every barnyard update, every quiet moment of trust rebuilt. Our goal isn't to lecture. It's to let you know these animals the way we do: by name, by temperament, by the particular way they stamp a hoof when they're glad to see you.
As an Indigenous and women-led sanctuary, we bring a multi-generational perspective to this work — one that honors the relationship between humans and animals as something earned, not assumed. We weave mental health awareness, justice, and narrative craft into everything we do, because change doesn't come from dry facts alone. It comes when you feel it.
Our programs include farmed animal sanctuary, a barn cat program, and reactive dog rescue. Every dollar sustains daily care, keeps rescue operations running, and expands the reach of stories that shift how people see the animals sharing this world with us.
If that work matters to you, you're welcome here.
