Trail Work

Since the organizations inception in 2003, SORBA Chattanooga has been focused on improving and maintaining trail access opportunities for local outdoor athletes. In 2004, SORBA Chattanooga developed the Singletrack Mind Initiative and set out to increase access from the 7 miles of mountain bike accessible trails in our community to a total of 100 miles within the greater Chattanooga area, a lofty goal indeed.

Over the years, SORBA Chattanooga and area land managers have worked hard to complete that goal and it has recently been achieved. In 2023, there are 160+ miles of mountain bike accessible trails within 30 minutes of downtown Chattanooga thanks to the efforts of SORBA Chattanooga and area land managers!

In addition to expanding area trails, SORBA Chattanooga contributes thousands of hours of trail work each year to maintain and expand area trails, with an average year exceeding 1,000 volunteer hours.

All of this effort has made the Chattanooga region recognized as one the premier destinations for mountain biking in the Southeast, driving significant tourism dollars into our area and helping to generate economic growth for the community by attracting new business and community members.

Summer of Stewardship - Support Chattanooga's Trails

For over 22 years, SORBA Chattanooga has been powered by passionate volunteers—building, maintaining, and advocating for the incredible trail systems that make our region special. Thanks to this collective effort, we now enjoy over 170 miles of mountain bike accessible trails within 30 minutes of downtown Chattanooga and a thriving community of more than 430 members. To build on that legacy, we’ve taken a bold step: hiring our first full-time Executive Director to lead SORBA Chattanooga into a new era of stewardship. This investment allows us to amplify our impact, grow meaningful partnerships, and ensure Chattanooga’s trails remain world-class for generations to come. Now, we need your help to keep this momentum going. Thanks to a generous $50,000 matching grant from the Lyndhurst Foundation, every dollar you give this summer will be doubled—up to the full match. That means your support goes twice as far in sustaining the trails and programs you care about most. Your donation helps us: Maintain and improve the trails you ride, run, and hike Expand inclusive programming with partners like White Oak Bicycle Co-op, Lookout Mountain Conservancy, and Catalyst Sports Build community through group rides, volunteer workdays, and open chapter meetings Advocate for trail access and sustainability at every level This is your chance to give back to the trails that give you so much. Whether you ride every week, hike occasionally, or simply believe in what trails do for Chattanooga—your support matters. Donate now and be part of the Summer of Stewardship. Consider a gift of $42.50, $85, or $170—equivalent to $0.25, $0.50, or $1 per mile of trail we have access to in the greater Chattanooga area.
