Fighting Food Insecurity - Powered by senior volunteers, we are one of the most productive gleaning groups in Southern California.

We are a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to reducing food waste, fighting food insecurity, and creating meaningful opportunities for older adults to serve their communities.

Every year, thousands of pounds of perfectly good fruit and vegetables go unharvested in residential backyards and on farms across San Diego County, while many individuals and families struggle to access healthy, nutritious food. Senior Gleaners bridges this gap by rescuing surplus produce and distributing it through a network of 75+ food pantries, banks, and community organizations.

Our mission is simple: provide quality food that would otherwise be wasted to those who need it most while giving seniors meaningful opportunities to stay active, connected, and engaged. Volunteers glean fruit, coordinate food pickups, sort and distribute produce, and help ensure that nutritious food reaches community organizations feeding the hungry.

In 2025 alone, Senior Gleaners rescued and distributed more than 419,000 pounds of fresh produce. Beyond feeding people, our work helps reduce food waste, supports environmental sustainability, strengthens community connections, and promotes healthy aging through volunteer service.

What makes Senior Gleaners unique is the multiple benefits created by every glean. A single gleaning event can prevent food waste, provide healthy meals to families in need, reduce environmental impacts, and give volunteers a meaningful way to make a difference in their community.

Your donation helps make this possible. Contributions support volunteer coordination, transportation, safety equipment, technology systems, outreach, and the operational infrastructure needed to rescue and distribute food efficiently throughout San Diego County. Because our organization is powered primarily by volunteers, every dollar donated has a significant impact and helps leverage thousands of hours of community service.

Together, we can reduce waste, fight hunger, strengthen communities, and ensure that more fresh, nutritious food reaches the people who need it most.

Thank you for helping Senior Gleaners grow community, reduce waste, and feed hope.
