New Zealand's unique native wildlife evolved for 80 million years without land mammals. Many of our species are found nowhere else on Earth and this isolation makes them vulnerable to introduced predators. When rats, stoats and possums arrived, native birds, bats, bugs and lizards began disappearing — and the country has been losing species ever since.

Making New Zealand predator free by 2050 will allow our native wildlife to flourish once more.

We all have a role to play.

Founded in 2013, Predator Free New Zealand Trust is an independent charity working alongside communities, iwi (tribal groups), councils and scientists toward one shared goal: a predator free Aotearoa New Zealand. We're not a government agency — we connect community groups, land-owners, schools and families, and back them with toolkits, funding and encouragement.

The movement we support has grown from a handful of hardy trappers to more than 5,000 community groups, iwi and significant landscape-scale partnerships across the country.

Your donation will help us continue to grow the movement, increase awareness and encourage people to get involved and take action for nature.

What we do:

We inspire — telling the stories of volunteer groups, farmers, inventors and scientists so more people see themselves as part of the movement.

We enable — funding equipment, training and events so communities can get started and keep going.

We advocate — as an independent voice, pushing government and decision-makers to keep predator removal a national priority, and making sure community groups are heard in policy decisions.

Every backyard, garden and neighbourhood counts, no matter the size. Your support helps community groups get the equipment, training and encouragement they need to bring native birds, bats, bugs and lizards back — one backyard at a time.
