The Mustang Heritage Foundation is leading the charge to end the need for off range holding for mustangs and burros by building demand for them within the equestrian industry and strengthening the ecosystem around adoption.

Our programs focus on supporting the mustang and burro community through events and education. Our membership program builds a community between trainers, adopters, organizations, and enthusiasts to share information, support one another, and celebrate the love of mustangs and burros.

The event sponsorship program provides for shows that offer mustang classes and awards to make mustangs more visible in the mainstream equine community, offer opportunities to new adopters in their journey, and honor the accomplishments of existing mustang owners.

Our adoption education program supports creative, impactful events that promote successful Mustang adoptions through education, training, and community engagement. Our mission is to empower trainers and organizations to design events that connect people with America’s mustang, teach the skills needed for long-term success, and inspire more people to choose a mustang as their next equine partner. These programs include training clinics, veterans programs, handling demonstrations, and adoption events.

The Wild Mustang & Burro Finals highlight horses that have progressed beyond adoption and early training—showcasing their versatility, reliability, and long-term potential. By focusing on finished, wild-bred mustangs and burros, the Finals create a pathway that extends beyond adoption. Skilled trainers prepare these horses for success, and dedicated owners carry that success forward into lifelong partnerships—proving that mustangs and burros can thrive in a wide range of disciplines and homes.
