At Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke ("In working or doing, one learns"), our mission is to provide Hāna's youth with a way to learn that makes sense to them, builds their self-esteem, and shows them they have the power to change their future.

Our methodology consists of a service-oriented education continuum, which provides meaningful work-based learning opportunities through a tiered apprenticeship to strengthen environmental stewardship, intergenerational relationships, and technical skills while creating a pathway for our youth to learn, grow, teach, and inspire the next generation. Through building, culinary, agricultural, and Hawaiian cultural training, we empower our next-generation leaders.

Mahele Farm // Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke

Mahele Farmʻs primary activities include: training farm apprentices, collaborating with our Kahu ʻAi Pono school gardens team, and hosting weekly community workdays and community events. Activities include all aspects of a fully-operational organic farm, producing approximately 2,000 pounds of produce each month—100% of which is distributed to our community.  Mahele Farm teaches youth, young adults and ʻohana the ‘āina wisdom of their elders, creating a spirit of unity and belonging.

Your support directly impacts our Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke youth and kūpuna-focused projects. Your donations fuel our Building and Construction, Kahu ʻAi Pono (Culinary Arts), Mahele Farm, and Mālama Hāloa programs, where we empower Hāna youth through real-life, hands-on training. Our program efforts meet real school and community needs, so our students' and graduates' education immediately serves communities throughout East Maui.  Self-sustenance, community relationship, cultural connection — these are some of the principles we aim to pass on to the next generation, as we create caretakers of our future and leaders of our island.
