APCF was founded in 1990 by API community leaders in response to the need for alternative funding for Los Angeles-based nonprofit organizations serving API communities. Prior to its incorporation, less than 0.3% of all local foundation funds went to API agencies, according to a 1988 study by AAPI Equality Alliance (formerly known as A3PCON - Asian Pacific Policy & Planning Council). In 1986, the United Way of Greater Los Angeles funded only five organizations serving APIs. To raise funds for community organizations serving API communities, APCF initiated employee giving campaigns at various workplaces, including private companies, federal agencies, state agencies, county agencies, city agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

In the past decade, APCF has diversified its fundraising efforts by developing other avenues for giving. With the growth of donor-advised funds, giving circles, grant making, scholarship funds, and capacity building initiatives, APCF has been able to cultivate philanthropy among APIs while providing multiple vehicles for donors to support the community.

As the only community-based fund serving API communities in Southern California since 1990, APCF is dedicated to increasing philanthropy amongst Asian Americans in order to build healthier communities, create a stronger unified voice, and develop leaders. AWLUC is a women’s liberal arts & sciences university that empowers women to become engaged and socially conscious leaders.

The AWLUC, based in Penang, Malaysia, is a private, not-for-profit, international women’s liberal arts & sciences university in Asia, modelled along the tradition of the prestigious “Seven Sisters” colleges in the United States, which have produced graduates prominent in every field. As the establishing body of the AWLUC, the AWLP Malaysia Foundation, a registered charity in Malaysia, is dedicated to supporting establishment efforts, operational planning, and fundraising for the AWLUC. 

AWLUC builds on central characteristics of an internationally diverse and leadership-oriented liberal arts and sciences institution, including the exploration of multiple fields of study, blended learning, smaller class sizes, global immersion and a residential experience – all in an Asian context. AWLUC will produce graduates who will be ready to work and ready to lead, by offering the necessary space and environment for the development of each student’s full leadership potential. Leadership development will be emphasised in all aspects of student experience and programmes will be purposefully designed to nurture and develop leadership skills and mindsets that equip women and men to take advantage of opportunities, act as prime movers in leading social transformation in their respective communities, and drive positive change globally. 

Background:

The Asian Women’s Leadership University (AWLU) Project was founded in 2010 when three Smith College graduates with roots in Asia met through the Smith alumni network. As beneficiaries of the positive impact of a Seven Sisters college education, the founders wanted to extend the positive impacts of a supportive and empowering education to young women outside of the United States.

Through extensive discussions, the mission of the AWLUC was compiled and a Steering Committee established in 2018 to further pursue this project. AWLP Malaysia Berhad was established in 2019 as a charity in Malaysia to drive establishment efforts and strategy, and to raise funds for the university globally.

Curriculum:

The AWLUC will offer an English-medium undergraduate liberal arts and sciences curriculum with majors across a range of areas supplemented by leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship courses to women across Asia. The undergraduate concentration majors will be specially designed to respond to current regional and global concerns (including entrepreneurship, environmental issues and social justice) as well as match student and parent interest in future career opportunities. A foundation of intellectual (critical thinking, analytical skills, mastery of academic subject) and research capacities (writing, problem formulation, research methodology) will additionally feed into employment pathways through internships and applied learning opportunities on and off-campus.  Beyond its undergraduate offerings, the AWLUC will also offer postgraduate courses and executive education courses aimed at advancing gender equity in Asia at a professional and C-Suite level.

According to IFC Corporate Governance Knowledge Publication of 2021, which reviewed 140 studies across 35 countries, numbers show that having more women in senior leadership positions increases business profitability, reduces risks, improves community engagement, and enhances the long-term viability of companies. Similarly, studies by more than 145 foundations show that the empowerment of women has been found to be the most effective strategy in addressing social issues like poverty and disease, as well as promoting overall economic growth and equity in communities. AWLUC sees its mission to cultivate future generations of women leaders as directly tied to a better future for our world.

The Women's Visionary Council (WVC) is a nonprofit organization focused on research, education, and advocacy related to entheogenic plants and substances, often referred to as psychedelics. The council comprises a network of women who are scholars, researchers, healers, activists, and artists, all interested in the exploration of these substances' potential for healing, personal growth, and spiritual development.

The WVC conducts various educational events, conferences, and gatherings that center on the responsible and informed use of entheogens. They aim to promote dialogue, research, and understanding of these substances, particularly from a gender-inclusive and diverse perspective.

Their work often involves exploring the historical and cultural contexts of entheogenic plant use, addressing issues of social justice and equity within the psychedelic community, and advocating for informed and ethical engagement with these substances.

Concerning data reveals that 23% of Asian New Yorkers live in poverty, significantly higher than the citywide average of 16% of all New Yorkers. And a staggering 28% of Asian American older adults 65+ live in poverty. As the American Bar Association reveals, Asian elders, especially those from immigrant backgrounds, endure more social isolation and mental health struggles than their peers due to linguistics, financial, and cultural barriers. These factors combined significantly impact the mental and emotional well-being of Asian American older adults in a city where depression and suicide among older adult immigrants are on the rise.

**A Note from Our Founders about Heart of Dinner & Our Evolution from 2020-2024:**

Dear Cherished Supporter,

Thank you for taking a moment to connect with our mission. We are so grateful for the opportunity to share our journey with you—a journey born from a deep, instinctive need to care for our Elders. **In March 2020, at the onset of the global pandemic, we leapt into action to support our Asian American elder community, who were facing devastating food insecurity, isolation, and loneliness.**

While many believe the urgency that defined the pandemic has passed, **the reality for our Elders remains critical. Even now, 1 in 3 Asian American older adults live below the poverty line.** These challenges are not new. For decades, this community has been overlooked, its struggles masked by the harmful “model minority” myth, which conceals the deep inequities faced by Asian American Elders. This, combined with language barriers, technology gaps, and economic hardship, means that many continue to lack access to the resources and care they deserve.

Out of a guttural instinct to protect and uplift our Elders, we **transformed our 300 square-foot apartment on the cusp of Chinatown and the Lower East Side into a sanctuary of cultural resonance and care.** We hyperfocused on those in the most critical state, providing emergency food relief and addressing their emotional needs through handwritten notes in their native languages, making sure our Elders felt seen, valued, and dignified.

**These care packages are more than just food—they are a lifeline.** Filled with culturally meaningful lunchboxes and fresh groceries beloved in Asian immigrant households like bok choy, rice, mung beans (and more!), all lovingly bundled inside decorated bags, attached with notes of love & joy that deliver warmth, connection, and belonging.

As our work evolved beyond emergency relief, we **built Heart of Dinner into a nonprofit focused on sustainable care.** Thanks to our incredible community of donors, partners, volunteers, and small team of staff, we have transformed into a **501(c)(3) public charity that continues to nourish and uplift our Elders, week after week.**

By Summer 2024, **we have delivered over 200,000 meals to beloved Elders living in significantly under-resourced and underinvested communities across New York City.** And our work is far from over. The challenges our Elders face didn’t begin with the pandemic, and they certainly won’t end with it. **These hardships are rooted in long-standing societal and governmental neglect, where policies and systems have historically overlooked the needs of this community.**

**Looking forward, we have plans to build Heart of Dinner's own delivery infrastructure with a fleet of electric vehicles, hire a dedicated team of drivers trained in our protocols—which emphasize cultural respect and thoughtful care when serving our Elders—and we aim to increase our care package distribution by 25%.** **These efforts will build upon our ongoing commitment to delivering care packages to our Elders and existing beneficiaries with the same high level of deep care and compassion.**

My Dog Is My Home's mission is to increase access to shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness with animals.

My Dog Is My Home is a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing access to shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness with companion animals. By securing their ability to maintain their most important relationships and find adequate shelter, we ensure every family’s right to build a home.

We assist service providers like homeless shelters in expanding their programming to allow humans and their companion animals to remain together. My Dog Is My Home’s programs currently fall into three categories: storytelling, community building, and technical assistance.

STORYTELLING
Storytelling is at the foundation of our work. We believe that people who are impacted by the problem are necessarily close to the solution. My Dog Is My Home provides a platform for people with actual lived experience of homelessness and animal companionship to share in their own words how co-sheltering people and animals together contributes to ending homelessness. Through exhibitions, speaking events, and video or narrated images, we are able to educate members of the public, program administrators, and policymakers about preserving the human-animal bond in circumstances of homelessness.

COMMUNITY BUILDING
We believe in the mantra that we are “stronger together.” My Dog Is My Home holds space for members of the homeless services and animal welfare communities to come together to connect, learn from one another, and solve mutual problems. Most notably, our community building efforts have created two related but distinct stakeholder watering holes: 

1) Annual Co-Sheltering Conference
Since 2021, My Dog Is My Home’s annual conference has drawn 400-500 people together from across disciplines to hear from homeless shelter programs about co-
sheltering models in practice, latest research in homelessness and animal companionship, and relevant policy efforts across the US and globally.

2) Co-Sheltering Collaborative
The Co-Sheltering Collaborative is a peer-to-peer learning network with membership that
spans across animal welfare and homeless services. This Collaborative meets as a large group on a quarterly basis to exchange resources, troubleshoot, and hear presentations from members on the progress of their work. In between large group meetings, working groups meet to produce deliverables that work towards collectively developed goals. The Collaborative also provides a sustained community for attendees of the annual conference.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
My Dog Is My Home also works with homeless shelters that need more hands-on assistance with developing or implementing co-sheltering. We provide customized training, consultation on policies, and resource coordination to ensure a successful co-sheltering program.

- Financial Career Paths: we partner with various diverse intern and career path programs to generate a more inclusive workforce. Since entry level roles in financial services tend to start at higher income levels, we are investing time into programs and partnerships that train more underrepresented communities for a career in financial services, while creating mentoring programs for mid to late-stage leaders to take on roles as asset owners, chief of investment officers, trustees, board of directors, as an example.  
- Resource Sharing: we provide free thought leadership programming and research  to amplify data to leaders and institutions to make informed decisions on the state of underrepresented communities while tracking progress for a more inclusive ecosystem.

Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco (CCC) is a longstanding community arts organization serving San Francisco's Chinatown. Our community relationships have roots in shared struggle and resilience, founded by Chinese Americans during the Civil Rights movement to rectify racist pasts and to actively shape Chinatown’s future as its first cultural center. Our community, SF Chinatown and underserved local artists, face systemic inequalities and invisibility, which are threatened by poverty, gentrification, language barriers, historical exclusion, and a lack of cultural resources. Today, CCC builds community stability, uplifts voice, and visibility through innovative arts programming and advocacy. CCC’s approach to equitable change is through arts programming and advocacy that elevate community stories (exhibitions and walking tours), incubate local artists (artist-in-residence), and forge cross-racial and cross-sectoral collaborations (community art projects), believing in local impact, with broader regional and international impact.  

Annually, we provide a platform for over 50 artists through exhibitions, festivals, and artist residencies, educate 2,000 underserved students through social justice tours and in-school programming, engage 50,000 diverse audience members to experience art and build skills, and advocate alongside partners to achieve community-wide change. We empower low-income artists and underserved community members with the voice and tools to champion for their community, to foster a sense of belonging and safe place and enable a healthy cultural life. CCC's advocacy has attracted investments and inspired local leaders on artistic strategies for social change. Our passionate team composed of women-led, bilingual, immigrant, queer, and working-class individuals, intimately understands the community's challenges, ensuring our stories are shared on our own terms.

Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco

We grow survivor & collective power to transform the culture & systems that lead to violence in the South Asian diaspora. 

SOAR was founded in 2021 to create a home for the ecosystem of individuals and organizations addressing and responding to gender-based violence in the South Asian diaspora in the US. We know that preventing and ending cycles of violence, advocating for survivors, building solidarity within and across movements, and driving change cannot be a finite or reactionary process. SOAR is leading sustainable and collective diasporic organizing that is critical to helping us move towards comprehensive structural and cultural change. We do this by 1) growing survivor leadership to ensure survivors are centered in solutions, 2) strengthening the field to advance approaches to address and end violence, and 3) shifting national narratives to drive innovation in policies and solutions.

Together, our team and community of survivors, allies, and frontline organizations approach our work from survivor-centered, intersectional, and healing-centered perspectives to end all forms of violence and foster joy, healing, and justice for all survivors and communities.

South Asian SOAR

A Scrutineer is: "a person who counts votes in an election or who makes certain that the counting has been done correctly."

**Scrutineers** believes that ***fair, transparent, and accurate elections*** are essential to the future of our nation - and citizen oversight plays a crucial role in helping protect American elections from interference, discrimination, and errors.

Our work sits at the intersection of Election Protection, Election Integrity, and Election Education.  Most election protection organizations do the vital work of helping ensure that all eligible voters can easily register and vote - their work ends when voters cast their ballots. ***Scrutineers' work starts at the polling place and continues well after election results have been published.*** It's the crucial work of observing at polls, recounts, and audits, and of collecting and documenting election results (poll tapes, ballot images, and results data) to perform comparisons and analyses to ensure that the results are accurate - that every vote gets counted as the voter intended.

**Our mission** is to educate, train, and mobilize *nonpartisan election scrutineers* to ensure all voters can vote, and all votes are counted accurately, in order to increase voter confidence and achieve and sustain a thriving democracy in the United States.

**Our goal** is a nation where all voters and our votes are universally cherished as **essential** to ensuring that those elected to public office truly represent the honorable values and priorities of the people.

Our free trainings educate the public on how to become an active component of election integrity, and on how to communicate with election officials, candidates, and legislators so that transparency and civic participation can restore trust in our elections.

Scrtuinteers' board will be expanding to reflect the diversity of the American electorate.  Our current chair is an AAPI woman with a disability, and the other five members also represent youth, seniors, LGBTQ folks, the disabled, and live all around the U.S.

SPIO is building Pacific Islander presence in higher education and professional fields through free digital resources.

Pacific Islanders remain underrepresented in higher education, professional fields, and in the media today. Often limited in opportunities in their home communities, Pacific Islanders need resources and support to pursue higher education, secure professional positions, and access economic opportunities. Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic and its disproportionate effect on Pacific Islanders and other communities of color, these resources are more essential than ever to foster a thriving, inclusive Pacific Islander community rooted in cultural heritage. 

South Pacific Islander Organization (SPIO) is a 100% volunteer and youth-led nonprofit founded in December 2018 by four Stanford alumni who believe in democratizing Pacific Islander access to higher education and economic opportunities, globally. They came together in response to the lack of cohesive Pacific representation in higher education, professional fields, and in the media.

SPIO's current international Advisory Council and Board of Directors leverage a diversity of expertise across government, corporate, higher education, and nonprofit fields which fuel their inclusive, cross-collaborative, and metrics-driven strategic plan.

SPIO's strength lies in its inclusive vision, international network, community-building capacity, digital reach, and online following. Some of their highlights to date include establishing a 501(c)3 within 6 months of incorporation, reaching over 50,000+ organic international website views in 2 years, and launching 6 digital programs accessible worldwide.

Q Center provides a safe space to support and celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ diversity, visibility and community building. Q Center is a 501c3 non-profit organization which offers multi-generational, multi-racial programs and services in four core areas: Arts & Culture; Education & Training; Health & Wellness and Advocacy.  There are dozens of events and groups that meet here, some focused on specific topics (like coming out or gender identity) and others aimed at fun social interactions (like sing-along piano cabarets or craft nights).  Entry to most of these is sliding-scale and run by dedicated volunteers, keeping Q Center truly community-driven and accessible.  In addition to our programmatic offerings, our 5,000 sq/ft facility is also a safe and friendly place to spend an afternoon.  With our  art exhibits, extensive library collection, Resource Wall, and free WiFi access, there's always something to see and learn here at Q Center. About OCASA
OCASA operates under four guiding principles of teaching and learning:

3.	A commitment to equality and diversity is vital; and
4.	A thriving community nurtures thriving students. 

We serve approximately 500 students annually across two campuses in Orange County, California: OCASA Elementary serves students K-5th grade in Laguna Niguel, and OCASA College Prep offers 6-10th grade classes (eventually to 12th grade) in San Juan Capistrano. Both OCASA campuses offer unique and innovative curriculum designed to help youth launch a STEAM-focused future. Through STEAM education, students are empowered to be curious learners who seek creative solutions to questions they can’t just search for online, leading students to develop the soft and hard skills necessary to succeed in college and in their careers. Additionally, our schools provide an environment that is welcoming of students and their families to learn in harmony favoring a multi-cultural spirit and awareness of the world we live in.

At OCASA, all classes are single-grade level. In addition, each student is assigned a mentor and a Self-Directed Learning (SDL) period to work on individual goals, group projects, and teacher-directed workshops. One-to-one mentoring is one of the important pillars of instruction at OCASA College Prep as we know how important it is for children to be truly connected with and cared for by the adults at their school. All students are paired with a mentor who acts as their advocate both inside and outside of the classroom. Mentors meet with their students one-on-one regularly to support their students in their progress towards their short-term and long-term academic and personal goals. The educational program at OCASA College Prep utilizes instructional practices that are proven to promote student learning. Teachers and administrators develop and implement an innovative educational model that addresses the needs of the whole child and emphasizes academic, personal, social, and emotional development.

OCASA Elementary and OCASA College Prep offer all required courses at each grade level including Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Physical Education. In addition, we have a number of specialty classes that vary by grade level and campus such as fine arts, music, engineering, design & modeling, computer science, and Spanish. Both OCASA campuses are classroom-based, personalized learning schools. The goal is to provide adaptable instruction to each student regardless of their age or grade-level.

What OCASA Aims to Solve 
The pandemic created an unprecedented educational rupture, the ramifications of which could last a lifetime. Although schools have adapted to our new reality as rapidly as possible, without continued adaption, the cumulative learning loss among already disadvantaged students can be catastrophic, especially in mathematics: Students of color may find themselves six months to an entire year behind.  In addition to the imminent threat of unprecedented learning loss to contend with, there is also a looming potential for equally unprecedented dropout rates. Exit from public school systems is occurring to different degrees, but the biggest drop may be at the starting point in kindergarten.  The lack of a kindergarten experience can have profound developmental impacts influencing later academic performance and even long-term life outcomes.  Especially given that early STEAM interventions are key to capturing interest and nurturing STEAM identities that can lead, this trend of kindergarten departures is especially alarming.

Compounding this, despite the perennial growth of lucrative STEM professions, gaps in STEM labor force participation remain just as persistent— the World Economic Forum has detailed a troubling skills shortage that will require 50% of all employees to reskill by 2025.  Even still, low-income students, girls, and students of color overwhelmingly fall into the gap between their STEM education and a STEM workforce with increasingly vacant positions. 
Notably, research shows that racial/ethnic minority students tend to take fewer high-level STEM courses in high school compared to White students, despite showing similar levels of interest and confidence in STEM topics —nurturing a STEM Identity among groups historically underrepresented in STEM fields and professions, therefore, is critical to accessing this interest and confidence, countering stereotypes that preclude STEM identification, and confronting the systemic inequities that consistently keep BIPOC students, girls, and low-income students out of STEM fields and lucrative, available workforce pathways.

OCASA’s STEAM Education 
In the short-term, OCASA aims to remedy the educational rupture brought on by COVID-19. In the long-term, OCASA will meet the ever-changing needs of the community with an innovative, new school model that provides families with greater options for their children’s education. Students’ level of exposure to STEAM in K–12 is a critical reason why they choose to or don’t choose pursue STEAM fields during their college education. Elementary public school students spend very little time on science, and the state sets a very low passing score on its 8th-grade science test.

At OCASA, our STEAM learning involves looking at our world through a multicultural lens in STEAM, as well as a Spanish culture and language program. Each class meets two days a week, with all STEAM+ electives striving to be hands-on, with innovative lessons tied to other subject areas and our Inquiry Arc theme. Inquiry Arcs are discrete units of study that utilize inquiry to drive learning and build students’ agency. They provide broad context and room for exploration around an interdisciplinary theme, and allow students to identify patterns and connections in their learning. Students at OCASA Elementary have meaningful time for tinkering, prototyping, and building through our on-campus lab spaces, as well as resource-rich experiences in music and the arts.

The following represents the impact of OCASA’s unique educational approach:
•	Deliberate practice in the art of short-, medium-, and long-term goal setting supports students’ development.
•	Developing a student’s self-knowledge is a key building block for lifelong learning. 
•	Deep, hands-on exploration of a diverse array of subject areas, professional fields, and work-settings not only helps expose students to new experiences but also develops self- knowledge and supports an emergent sense of purpose.
•	Students with a sense of belonging in school feel socially connected, supported, and respected. They trust their teachers and their peers. They are confident that they are seen as a person of value.
•	In order to achieve their college and career goals, students need an understanding of the transition to the college and career landscape including, but not limited to, practical, financial, and logistical requirements and admission processes. 

Technology is a part of daily instruction and contributes to the application-based approach to learning. Given the world that we share, we believe that technology proficiency and judgment is critical, and that enables students to explore and propel their learning forward. 
We see our role in the ecosystem of Orange County schools as:
1.	A lab-school focused on experiential learning as well as a test bed to prototype other nontraditional educational approaches;
2.	A thought partner responsible for sharing out best practices and lessons learned, and;
3.	A collaborator working alongside other school leaders in the pursuit of providing all children with an excellent education.

About Donations
OCASA is not a private school. As a public charter school, academic instruction is funded by the State of California. However, we rely on the generosity of the individuals, foundations, businesses and corporations to fund the annual cost of our programs, scholarships, afterschool services and community outreach programs. OCASA does not charge tuition and admits all students who wish to attend unless it receives a greater number of applications than there are spaces for students, in which case it will hold a public random drawing to determine admission.

Our unique educational approach aims to prepare our diverse and underserved students for an increasingly complex and globalized world. Additionally, OCASA provides a pathway to college and a professional career for low-middle income students who may not have had the opportunity otherwise due to limited resources. Donations would allow OCASA to continue to offer its award winning STEAM curriculum to any student, regardless of income, background and residency/school district. Together, we can ensure that all youth in our community have the opportunity to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
