Invest in Linköping University's continued development

Linköping University's Anniversary Foundation (in Swedish called "Jubileumsstiftelsen") functions as a guarantor with the aim of developing free and competitive research as well as continuous and relevant education of the highest quality. Among other things, the foundation has been designed so that donors can direct funds to special purposes at Linköping University (LiU) without creating their own foundation. It has proven to be a good alternative for donations as the foundation already successfully manages funds from donors who, out of self-interest, have donated funds to specific purposes. It is also possible to donate "free funds" to the "Jubileumsstiftelsen", which is aimed at prioritized purposes for the future.

It started with a vision
A university is never finished, must never stagnate. Its business must be constantly evolving and changing. LiU is still a young university with a strong ambition to establish itself in the long term as an internationally recognized university for higher education, research and utilization. With that knowledge, the founders behind the initiative, together with LiU, saw a vision of a foundation as a long-term guarantor for the university's continued development. In connection with LiU's 40th anniversary, in 2015, the municipalities of Linköping and Norrköping and the Östergötland Region took the initiative to make a donation of SEK 1 million to Linköping University, to establish and fulfill the vision – "Jubileumsstiftelsen".

In close collaboration with the business world and society, Linköping University (LiU) conducts world-leading, boundary-crossing research in fields including materials science, IT and hearing. In the same spirit, the university offers many innovative educational programmes, many of them with a clear vocational focus, leading to qualification as, for example, doctors, teachers, economists and engineers.

The university has 36 000 students and 4,300 employees on four campuses. Together we seek answers to the complex questions facing us today. Our students are among the most desirable in the labour market and international rankings consistently place LiU as a leading global university.

LiU achieved university status in 1975 and innovation is our only tradition.

Andrew J. Bock Family & Friends Memorial Fund

American Ingrid Bock has created a fund and donated to Linköping University, supporting the internationally renowned research of Professor Markus Heilig into new ways to treat addiction disorders. Ingrid has a personal stake in the subject, having lost loved ones to alcohol-related diseases. Her family has been hard hit by alcohol problems and several members have developed alcohol use disorder at a young age and died from its consequences. She was very close to her nephew Andrew, who died suddenly in 2020, only 32 years old. Andrew was particularly vulnerable, with both of his parents weighed down by the genetic burden. They passed away as a consequence of alcohol-related illness while Andrew was in his early teens. Honour the memory of Andrew Ingrid Bock wants to help other people by supporting Markus Heilig's research. She also wants to encourage others, and show how to support research through Andrew's memorial fund. She will donate to the fund every year on Andrew's birthday, 6 April. "Markus Heilig is internationally renowned for his research. And he seems to have deep sympathy for people who struggle with alcohol, without taking a moral stance about dependency", says Ingrid Bock. Markus Heilig Markus Heilig is a professor psychiatry, a Wallenberg Foundation Clinical Scholar, and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Since 2015, he is the founding director of the Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience at Linköping University, Sweden. Prior to his current position, Heilig was Clinical Director at the US National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (2004 – 2015), and ran a research group at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden (1995 – 2004).
