Form Foundation

We provide educational grants in the form of fellowships and project-based scholarships to emerging and underrepresented artists. These grants support participation in residencies, immersive learning experiences, and creative development projects either at FORM Arcosanti or partner institutions worldwide. Grant amounts typically range from $5,000 to $20,000, depending on the scope and need. Programs are publicized via our website, partner networks, and social media. We do not offer educational loans. All awards are based on artistic merit, impact potential, and alignment with our mission to empower transformative art and ideas.

Eligible applicants for programs are emerging and underrepresented artists of any age, discipline, or geographic location who demonstrate a strong creative vision and alignment with our mission. Selection criteria include artistic merit, originality, community impact, and commitment to social or cultural engagement. Applicants must submit a portfolio or project proposal, resume or bio, and personal statement. Preference is given to those who face systemic barriers in accessing traditional art opportunities. Eligibility is not restricted by academic background or citizenship.

Recipients are selected based on artistic merit, originality, and the potential impact of their work. Key criteria include the strength of the applicant's portfolio or project proposal, alignment with the organization's mission, and demonstrated commitment to community or cultural engagement. While financial need is considered, it is not required. Applications are reviewed by a selection panel of artists and arts professionals who assess each submission holistically, considering creative potential, clarity of vision, and the capacity to benefit from the opportunity.

Recipients are required to actively participate in the funded program or complete the proposed project within the specified timeline. They must submit a brief final report documenting their experience, outcomes, and impact. For residency-based grants, recipients must attend and fully engage in scheduled sessions. There is no GPA or academic requirement, but recipients must demonstrate ongoing commitment to their artistic practice and alignment with the organization's mission. Grants are not automatically renewable; continued support requires a new application and demonstrated progress or impact from prior support.

We supervise grants through signed agreements outlining expectations, timelines, and deliverables. Recipients are required to submit a final report detailing how funds were used, project outcomes, and any public presentations or works produced. For program-based grants (e.g., residencies), attendance and participation are monitored directly by staff. We do not require grade transcripts or make payments to schools. If a recipient fails to meet the terms of the grant, such as not completing the project or misusing funds, we may request a partial or full return of the grant and disqualify them from future opportunities.

Selection committee members are chosen based on their expertise in the arts, commitment to equity and inclusion, and alignment with the Foundation's mission. The committee includes a mix of staff, board members, and external arts professionals to ensure a fair, informed, and diverse review process.
