Empowering Entrepreneurs: Help Us Support Tailors in Uganda

Development Alert is dedicated to providing sustainable solutions to poverty, environmental challenges, and hopelessness, partnering with organizations that share their vision for a brighter future. One of their key focus areas is Economic Empowerment , and through this fundraiser, we can support their efforts to create life-changing opportunities for young women in rural Uganda. Why Uganda? In Uganda, 41% of the population lives in poverty , and nearly half of the country’s population is under the age of 15, making it one of the youngest populations globally. Uganda also hosts Africa’s largest refugee population, with more than one million refugees seeking asylum. These pressures have strained local communities, many of which struggle to meet basic needs. While agricultural development is a key priority for economic growth, there is also a pressing need to provide sustainable livelihoods for Uganda's youth and refugee communities. Development Alert is addressing this through their targeted Economic Empowerment programs. The Economic Empowerment Program To combat the challenges of poverty, Development Alert: Provides skills training based on community needs Supports individuals and communities with resources to launch small businesses Offers financial assistance to help scale these ventures Connects people with opportunities to improve living conditions The Challenge In the rural Greater Paya area, over 100 young, trained female tailors are currently unemployed. Although they have the skills, they lack the resources to purchase sewing machines and fabrics necessary to start their own businesses. This leaves them, and their families, stuck in a cycle of poverty without the means to provide for basic household needs. The Solution Development Alert has already supported 10 female tailors , providing them with sewing machines and startup fabrics to launch their businesses. Now, with your help, they aim to reach 100 more young women, empowering them to create permanent employment opportunities for themselves. Each young female tailor will receive: A brand-new sewing machine Startup fabrics to begin producing garments This support will enable them to have a sustainable income and break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their households. Long-Term Impact Supporting this initiative will: Lift 100 families out of poverty Promote grassroots entrepreneurship and economic empowerment Provide training opportunities for other community members interested in tailoring How You Can Help Every donation brings us closer to the goal of supporting 100 unemployed young tailors in Uganda. You can choose your level of impact: Buy one sewing machine for a young tailor : $170 Provide startup fabrics for a new business : $500 Fully fund one young tailor’s new business : $670 Thank you for your generosity! Every contribution makes a meaningful difference in the lives of these young women and their families.

Plant 50,000 Trees in Eastern Uganda

Challenge Aloe tororoana spp-which is only restricted to Tororo District is locally endangered, vulnerable and threatened. Tororo like most districts in Uganda has lost over 80% of its vital wetlands, swamps and natural forests to agriculture, settlements, quarrying, lumbering and other human subsistence and commercial activities due to the high need for food, firewood, charcoal, and timber. The loss has had severe environmental consequences inform of tremendous loss of biodiversity, human-wildlife conflict, land degradation, flooding, erosion, destructive storms and erratic rain patterns. Solution This project will plant 50,000 indigenous and acclimatized trees species with communities in the severely affected region for alternative source of wood fuel, increased tree cover, wind break, restoration and livelihoods diversification. Local communities and authorities and institutions will be involved and made aware of the benefits of tree planting and environment. This will empower rural communities in the region to protect their local environment, provide alternative income, food and tree resources. Long-Term Impact The awareness campaigns targeting households, schools, churches and local groups and all the other institutions in the region will build the capacity of the people in tree nursery establishment and management, nurture trees and use them sustainably. Knowledge of planting and protecting trees will be passed on for generations. It will also provide alternative sources of food, firewood, increased tree cover, reduced pressure on natural forest and mitigate negative impacts of climate change.
