Fundraising Event November 20, 2025: Thanksgiving Fundraiser   We are living in an unprecedented time of fear and uncertainty. Our immigrant neighbors wake each day under threat of detention and deportation. Families are being torn apart, and whole communities are being driven into the shadows. Many are forced to hide—too afraid to buy groceries, to seek medical care, or to even send their children to school. At the Congregation Action Network (CAN), our work is rooted in faith and the power of community. Guided by our varied spiritual traditions, we bring congregations together across lines of difference to build solidarity, cultivate hope, and take collective action. Over the past year, we have strengthened a vibrant coalition of interfaith leaders. Together, we are weaving networks of care, training leaders, and standing as a public witness toward a sacred vision of justice and belonging. Join us for an evening of inspiration and a chance to share your critical support for our immigrant community. This fundraiser is your chance to connect with a community who cares, learn about the work that the Congregation Action Alliance and our Executive Director Rev. Julio have been doing, and take action to make a difference for those most vulnerable. The evening will include a light supper, silent auction, exciting guest speakers, and more. RSVP now to register and receive location details. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we invite you to bring a non-perishable food item for donation with you for entry. Our work in action: ​​Provided multiple Constitutional Rights  trainings that help people understand their legal protections. Trained faith community members to accompany individuals to court hearings  and appointments, serving as a visible shield against detention.  Organized a consistent public presence  and rapid response , through vigils and other actions, lifting up the voice of faith leaders against the suffering created by the mass deportation system. For example, CAN has organized multiple vigils, alongside CASA, to support Kilmar Ábrego Garcia and his family. Building a coalition of faith leaders across DC, Maryland, and Virginia —each connected to clusters of organizing groups—creating a powerful multiplier effect that extends into the community. Right now, we’re trying to stop deportations where we can and provide harm reduction for those who are deported and their families—ensuring they aren’t left without resources, safety, or hope. We are the only organization in the DMV weaving together interfaith leaders and congregations to meet this moment.  But our capacity is stretched beyond its limits. CAN’s sole staff, Executive Director Julio Hernández, is spread impossibly thin. To meet the urgent needs of our communities, we must hire a full-time organizer  who can support the coordination of interfaith leaders across our region  for a powerful, united response. En la Congregation Action Network (CAN), nuestro trabajo está arraigado en la fe y en el poder de la comunidad. Guiados por nuestras diversas tradiciones espirituales, unimos a las congregaciones a través de las diferencias para construir solidaridad, cultivar esperanza y tomar acción colectiva. Nuestro trabajo en acción: Hemos ofrecido múltiples capacitaciones sobre Derechos Constitucionales que ayudan a las personas a entender sus protecciones legales. Hemos capacitado a miembros de comunidades de fe para acompañar a personas a audiencias y citas, sirviendo como un escudo visible contra la detención. Hemos organizado una presencia pública constante y respuestas rápidas, a través de vigilias y otras acciones, amplificando la voz de líderes religiosos contra el sufrimiento causado por el sistema de deportaciones masivas. Por ejemplo, CAN ha organizado múltiples vigilias, junto a CASA, para apoyar a Kilmar Ábrego García y su familia. Estamos construyendo una coalición de líderes religiosos en DC, Maryland y Virginia—cada uno conectado a redes de grupos organizadores—creando un poderoso efecto multiplicador que se extiende a la comunidad. En este momento, estamos intentando detener las deportaciones donde sea posible y reducir el daño para quienes son deportados y sus familias, asegurando que no se queden sin recursos, seguridad o esperanza. Somos la única organización en el área del DMV que conecta líderes interreligiosos y congregaciones para responder a este momento. Pero nuestra capacidad está al límite. CAN cuenta únicamente con una persona en el personal, nuestro Director Ejecutivo, Julio Hernández, quien está sobrecargado de trabajo. Para responder a las necesidades urgentes de nuestras comunidades, debemos contratar a un organizador a tiempo completo que pueda coordinar a los líderes interreligiosos de nuestra región para lograr una respuesta poderosa y unida.
