The Community Gear Library is a resource in the Shenandoah Valley to increase access to the outdoors for all members of our diverse community by providing information and gear. We let people borrow camping, hiking, backpacking, and bike packing equipment for free.
We are making big moves and adding another library to the mix! To do that we need to raise more funds to purchase gear as well as pay for official email addresses for two separate gear libraries.

Community Gear Library - Staunton Public Library Location
We are expanding! We are in the process of adding a second library and need to raise the funds to purchase the gear needed. This new library location will give access to a new city and county of people. The Harrisonburg location has over 100 people/ families approved to borrow gear and has lent out over 500 pieces of gear over the last 2 years. We can't wait to help even more people spend time outside by partnering with the Staunton Public Library. The funds we raise will be used to purchase tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, backpacking packs, camping stoves, and cooking kits as well as other items needed to start a new lending library. "The Staunton Public Library team is thrilled to be able to partner with the Community Gear Library to bring down financial barriers to outdoor recreation. This new collection will help us expand our current Library of Things, which broadens access to musical instruments, state parks, local live theater, birding, museums, and now camping and hiking equipment for all library card holders. We are excited to see where this new gear will take our community members!"
