Bridging the global digital divide to support "ICT for development"

DonateStart a fundraiser
Close the Gap is a Brussels-based international nonprofit organization that aims to bridge the digital divide by offering high-quality, pre-owned computers donated by corporations and public organizations to educational, medical, entrepreneurial and social projects in developing and emerging countries. Close the Gap wants to provide a comprehensive and sustainable approach from the pick-up of the equipment at the donor company to the refurbishment, project selection, local installation of the computers and on-site training. Through its partner WorldLoop, Close the Gap also "closes the loop" by providing local recycling facilities once the IT equipment does reach the end of its life.

From Farm to Future

From Farm to Future: Empower through Soil, Skill and Sustainability. At the Kenya Kesho School for Girls, we believe education goes beyond the classroom. That is why we are launching a sustainable farming project that will not only help feed our girls but also equip their families with skills to break the cycle of poverty. This project will: ·        Grow food to support daily school meals ·        Train parents and students in sustainable, regenerative farming practices ·        Distribute regenerative seeds to families to help them grow food at home ·        Serve as a model farm and vocational training center for the entire community We aim to raise US$63,000 to set up the infrastructure, training programs, and seed distribution systems needed this project to succeed. Most of the parents in our school community have never had the chance to receive a quality education. As a result, many rely on irregular or low-income jobs and some struggle to provide even one meal a day for their families. To break this cycle of poverty, we are introducing a vocational farming program that will equip parents with practical skills to grow food, earn a stable income, and improve their families’ well-being. This training will not only take place on our model farm but will also empower families to apply what they have learnt in their own homes and communities. Farming is deeply tied to the local economy. That is why the Kenya Kesho School for Girls , in collaboration with parents and our schoolgirls , has developed this initiative using sustainable agriculture as a tool for economic growth, rural development , and poverty reduction . More than that, this program serves as an incentive for parents to keep their daughters in school , rather than marrying them off for a small dowry. When families are empowered, they are more likely to invest in the future of their children, especially their daughters.
