Classrooms In The Clouds (CITC) works to improve educational opportunities for children in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal, a remote and mountainous area where access to quality education can be challenging. We focus particularly on early-years education, helping children develop a strong foundation for future learning while also tackling the barriers that prevent girls from staying in school.
Our work includes:
Supporting and developing teachers: We currently sponsor up to 30 female teachers at any given time, across 15 schools. We recruit teachers for their potential and commitment, then provide ongoing training and mentoring to help them become excellent, child-centred teachers. Female teachers also provide important role models for girls in communities where women have historically had fewer opportunities to enter the teaching profession.
Building safe, child-friendly classrooms: We have built and resourced 88 high-quality classrooms in Nepali state schools. Our classrooms are designed specifically for young children and are earthquake-resistant, helping provide safe and stimulating environments in which children can learn.
Menstrual health and keeping girls in school: Menstruation is a significant barrier to girls' education in rural Nepal. We provide gender-specific toilets, clean water, menstrual health education and reusable period kits. We also support local women's micro-businesses to produce the reusable kits, creating employment opportunities within the communities we serve.
CITC works closely with local communities and government education authorities to ensure that our programmes meet local needs and have a lasting impact.
Your support helps give children in some of Nepal's most remote communities the opportunity to learn, stay in school and build a better future.

John Dirks As a former American Peace Corps Volunteer, I saw firsthand the need to provide better schools and classrooms in Nepal. Supporting women teachers and female students is also critical. Thank you CITC for your important work.
