Founded in 1979, The Brussels Choral Society (BCS) is the largest amateur symphonic choir in Belgium, with over 100 members from over 25 countries. The choir aims to perform to professional standards, with a wide-ranging repertoire that balances the much-loved classics with more recent and unexpected discoveries, maintaining a freshness and dynamism for audiences and singers alike. In the past three years, the choir has brought to life Mendelssohn’s Elias, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem and Schicksalslied, Schubert’s Mass No. 2, Ralph van William’s Serande to Music, the premier of Eric Delsen’s newest composition, Missa per Concordiam, the world premier of Qoutaybe Neaimi’s Sounds of Baghdad, Palmieri’s Misatango and Nisi Dominus, Handel’s Messiah, Verdi’s Requiem and a summer concert of songs by Debussy, Whitacre, Elder and Laudidsen. Most recently, we joined with the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union to perform Poulenc's Gloria and Bruckner's Mass No. 1 in D Minor in the celebrated Palais de Beaux Arts in Brussels in December 2025 and in Edinburgh's renowned Usher Hall in March 2026.

BCS gives most of its concerts in Brussels, but has also performed throughout Belgium – in the main concert halls of Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, Leuven, Mechelen, Charleroi and Liege – as well as at international venues, including Bonn, Budapest, Cologne, London, Guildford, Lille, Maastricht, and Rotterdam. The choir has taken part in many music festivals, notably the Brussels Summer Festival, the Festival of Flanders and the Klara Festival. BCS has worked with internationally recognized soloists and orchestras, including the Belgian National Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, Beethoven-Orchester Bonn and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and with notable conductors such as Dirk Kaftan, Michel Tabachnik, Ed Spanjaard and Jonathan Willcocks.

Support BCS as it Opens a New Chapter

For nearly 50 years, the Brussels Choral Society , Belgium’s leading amateur symphonic choir, has brought the beauty of choral music to the people of Belgium and beyond, including France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. For all that time, BCS performed under our wonderful volunteer Musical Directors, founder Tom Cunningham and his successor Eric Delsen. Joris Derder now takes up the baton to bring the choir to even greater heights, beginning with a medley of gorgeous Nordic pieces in June and Mozart’s Requiem in the Palais de Beaux Arts in November. Please help us continue to bring Bach and Brahms, Duruflé and Dvořák , Pärt and Poulenc, Verdi and Vaughn-Williams to the public at accessible prices. Donations will help offset the rising costs of venues, soloists and orchestras, and are tax-deductible in the United States through the American Friends of the Brussels Choral Society account at Myriad USA. As BCS is all-volunteer, donations are used exclusively to bring the richness of our music to our public. Thank you for your support!
