Our mission is saving Sickle Cell lives in rural Africa.

We partner with high sickle cell burden counties in Kenya to establish county (sub-national) sickle cell programs to make early and continuous sickle cell inpatient and outpatient care available at public hospitals.

We provide health insurance coverage for patients and their families to afford this care. And address the social issues facing patients and their families limiting their healthy lives.

We advocate to governments to prioritise sickle cell in policy and budgets for sustained healthcare delivery and access in high sickle cell burden counties in Kenya.

The Sickle Cell Livelihood Fund

The Sickle Cell Livelihood Fund is a fund by Africa Sickle Cell Organisation for people living with sickle cell and their families in Kenyan rural communities. Sickle Cell heavy financial burden due to high out-of-pocket expenses for sickle cell care, low educational attainment and high unemployment rates significantly reduces the ability of patients and families to access basic needs i.e. food, clean water, shelter and sanitation, education. This financial strain impacts their adherence to sickle cell care resulting to poor health outcomes, preventable complications and premature death. Our goal is to support sickle cell patients and their households address challenges of :- food insecurity limited access to clean water inadequate shelter and sanitation Education Every month, we'll be providing :- Small grants of $100 for income generating activities to patients and caregivers Small annual educational scholarships for patients in tertiary learning institutions Your generous donation will provide continuous support for the most vulnerable sickle cell patients and their households. This contribution will help strengthen our communities, offering crucial economic boost to those in most need.

Red Blood Cell Exchange for Sickle Cell

Imagine watching your child cry in unbearable pain knowing the only treatment that can save their life is a bag of blood that is unavailable. While on the other side, a specialized treatment exists that could prevent a stroke, protect vital organs and give your child the chance to grow up but it is simply too expensive to afford. Sickle cell disease causes severe pain crises, life-threatening anemia, infections, stroke and irreversible organ damage. For many patients, regular blood transfusions and Red Blood Cell Exchange are not optional, they are the difference between life and death. This September, the Africa Sickle Cell Organisation (ASCO) and Bone Blood Foundation (BBF) are uniting communities across Kenya and Tanzania in a blood campaign with one shared purpose: giving people living with sickle cell disease a better chance to live. Our goal is to collect 1,500 units of safe blood to strengthen blood supplies for patients who depend on transfusions. At the same time, we are raising funds to provide Red Blood Cell Exchange treatment for 20 vulnerable patients who would otherwise be unable to access this lifesaving care. A life-saving Red Blood Cell Exchange (RBCx) therapy  a t USD 1159 per patient would go a long way Your generosity is more than a gift, our vision goes beyond September.
