Red Blood Cell Exchange for Sickle Cell
- Raised
- $0
- Goal
- $23,000
Imagine watching your child cry in unbearable pain knowing the only treatment that can save their life is a bag of blood that is unavailable. While on the other side, a specialized treatment exists that could prevent a stroke, protect vital organs and give your child the chance to grow up but it is simply too expensive to afford.
Sickle cell disease causes severe pain crises, life-threatening anemia, infections, stroke and irreversible organ damage. For many patients, regular blood transfusions and Red Blood Cell Exchange are not optional, they are the difference between life and death.
This September, the Africa Sickle Cell Organisation (ASCO) and Bone Blood Foundation (BBF) are uniting communities across Kenya and Tanzania in a blood campaign with one shared purpose: giving people living with sickle cell disease a better chance to live.
Our goal is to collect 1,500 units of safe blood to strengthen blood supplies for patients who depend on transfusions. At the same time, we are raising funds to provide Red Blood Cell Exchange treatment for 20 vulnerable patients who would otherwise be unable to access this lifesaving care.
A life-saving Red Blood Cell Exchange (RBCx) therapy at USD 1159 per patient would go a long way
Your generosity is more than a gift, our vision goes beyond September.
