Seniors
America is the most age-diverse society in its history — five generations alive at once. Yet our institutions remain segregated by age, and they are straining under it. Colleges close as they run out of 18-year-olds. Congregations shrink even as spiritually curious young people seek community. Civic groups built on purpose that spans generations have drifted into age silos. And the two groups most affected by loneliness are the young and the old. These aren't separate crises. They share a root: institutions designed to sort people by age, just as age diversity became the country's defining feature. Meanwhile, the dominant story about generations is one of conflict — one age group's gain treated as another's loss. That story is wrong, and the design is fixable. The problem isn't too many older people or too few younger ones. It's that the two are kept apart. CoGenerate works to change that — to make cogeneration, older and younger people solving problems together, the new norm.
