Wild Harvest and Restoration Fund restores California native ecosystems through community wild harvest, habitat restoration, tribal resource partnerships, and wild agriculture research.

California pipevine (Aristolochia californica) is the only plant the pipevine swallowtail can lay its eggs on. No pipevine, no butterfly. We rescued vines from Strawberry Creek on the UC Berkeley campus ahead of the excavation there, and we grow them on to plant back into habitat.

In practice that means weekly potting evenings, 5:30 to 7:30pm, at the Gill Tract Community Farm in Albany, where volunteers pot rescued vines and cuttings. No experience needed, and everything is taught on the spot. Friends and kids welcome.

We give the plants away free. A pipevine only reliably survives a move in the cool wet season, so a plant taken home in summer waits in its pot until the first rains.

Your donation buys pots, potting soil, and the work of getting vines into the ground.
