History and Background:

The Western Uganda FBO Network was established in 2013 as an interfaith umbrella organization. Our roots lie in the collaboration of diverse faith-based groups across western Uganda. These groups recognized the need for collective action to address social, economic, and environmental challenges in the region.

Mission and Goals:

Our mission is to enhance the well-being of people in Uganda and beyond by promoting sustainable development, social justice, and interfaith cooperation.

Our core goals include:

Advocacy and Policy Development: We engage with policymakers, government agencies, and other stakeholders to advocate for policies that benefit marginalized communities. Our focus areas include health, education, gender equality, and environmental conservation.

Capacity Building: We empower FBOs through training, workshops, and networking opportunities. Strengthening organizational capacity enables FBOs to better serve their communities.

Adolescents’ Rights: We champion the rights of adolescents, ensuring their access to education, healthcare, and protection from harmful practices.

Environmental Stewardship: Our network encourages tree planting initiatives led by churches and mosques. We believe that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility.

Past and Current Activities: Over the years, we’ve achieved significant milestones:

Community Health Programs: We’ve conducted health awareness campaigns, provided medical services, and promoted hygiene practices.

Education Initiatives: Our network supports schools, scholarships, and vocational training programs. Education is a key driver of sustainable development.

Interfaith Dialogue: We facilitate dialogue among different religious groups, fostering understanding and collaboration.

Youth Empowerment: We organize skill-building workshops, mentorship programs, and entrepreneurship training for young people.

Future Plans: Looking ahead, we aspire to:

Expand Outreach: Reach more communities, especially those in remote areas, with our programs.

Promote Gender Equality: Address gender disparities and empower Queer, women and girls.

Climate Action: Strengthen environmental conservation efforts and promote sustainable practices.

Hope and Healing for LGBTIQ Individuals in Uganda:

Hope and Healing for LGBTIQ Individuals in Uganda: Rehabilitation Program The recent enactment of anti-LGBTIQ laws in Uganda has left many individuals in a state of fear and despair. As a member of the Western Uganda Faith-Based Organizations (FBO) Network, I have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact these laws have had on our community. The stories of those affected are heart-wrenching and highlight the urgent need for support and intervention. Why This is Important:  One story that stands out is that of John, a young man who was forced to flee his home after being outed as gay. John faced relentless persecution and was ostracized by his family and community. The trauma led him to severe depression and suicidal thoughts. With no safe place to turn to, John’s situation seemed hopeless. This is just one of many stories that underscore the critical need for our rehabilitation program. Impact of Donations:  Your donations will have a profound impact on the lives of individuals like John. Here’s how your support can make a difference: $50  can provide a week of professional counseling for an individual struggling with mental health issues. $100  can cover the cost of safe housing for a month, offering a secure environment free from persecution. $250  can fund legal assistance to help individuals navigate the complexities of the new laws and protect their rights. $500  can support community reintegration programs, including vocational training and educational opportunities, helping individuals rebuild their lives. Overall Goal:  We are seeking to raise $250,000 USD  to establish and maintain this comprehensive rehabilitation program. This amount will ensure that we can provide sustained support and resources to those in need. Who Will Benefit:  The beneficiaries of this fundraiser are LGBTIQ individuals in Western Uganda who are battling mental illness and suicidal thoughts due to the recent anti-LGBTIQ legislation. These individuals are among the most vulnerable in our society, facing not only legal and social challenges but also severe mental health crises. Your support will provide them with the resources and care they need to heal and thrive. Threats to Religious Spaces and Affirming CSOs:  In addition to the anti-LGBTIQ laws, the upcoming religious organizations policy poses a significant threat to religious spaces and affirming civil society organizations (CSOs) that support LGBTIQ individuals. This policy could lead to increased scrutiny and restrictions on these organizations, further limiting their ability to provide safe spaces and essential services. The Western Uganda FBO Network is committed to standing against these threats and ensuring that our community continues to have access to the support and advocacy they need. By contributing to this fundraiser, you are not only offering immediate relief but also helping to build a more inclusive and supportive community. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most. Thank you for your compassion and generosity.
