One in four people on earth, 2.1 billion of us still lack safely managed drinking water at home. 106 million of them drink directly from rivers, lakes and untreated surface sources. 3.4 billion have no safely managed sanitation. These aren't abstract numbers. They're a child who gets sick from the water she drinks, a girl who misses school because fetching water takes four hours, a family that can't plan past tomorrow. The good news is that this is solvable, and it's being solved. Between 2015 and 2024, 961 million people gained access to safely managed drinking water. Coverage rose from 68% to 74%. Progress is slow, but it's real, and it moves when money moves. Where this fundraiser comes from I run savewater.tech , a public leaderboard where companies pay to rank. 75% of every bid goes here. Not a portion of profits, not a rounding error - three quarters of gross revenue, donated, with every receipt published. The industry buying those spots runs on data centres, and data centres run on water. This is a small way of sending some back. As a student visiting Kenya with my father i realised water is not just a necesity its life, and still 2.2 billion people worldwide don't have access to water, around 3.5 million of them die each year. THAT'S 6 PER MINUTE thats why we need to change.
