The Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health (TICAH) is a Kenyan organization founded in 2003. At TICAH, we dream of a society where all barriers to equitable health are removed for marginalized populations, where rights are realised and where the beauty of culture and diversity is celebrated.

VISION

A safe and just world where rights are realized, the beauty of culture and diversity are celebrated and holistic health is attained.

MISSION

We amplify community action to realize the transformative power of culture for fundamental rights, holistic health and social wellbeing.

We work with our communities to co-create change through four integrated programs:

1) Healthy Households: Ending malnutrition and attaining holistic health among vulnerable populations by focusing on food as medicine.

2) Our Bodies, Our Choices: Supporting marginalized populations to enjoy equity and justice in access to their sexual reproductive health wellbeing and rights.

3) Art with Heart: Supporting a balanced ecosystem of collaboration between the creative and cultural sector, communities, governments and civil society for equity and social justice.

4) Indigenous Knowledge & Culture: Joining communities in celebrating the power of culture and indigenous knowledge in realizing holistic health, equity and climate justice.

Cutting across TICAH’s objectives are three multidisciplinary themes:

• Gender Justice: Knowledge and Skills, Advocacy, Choices and Access

• Climate Justice: Indigenous Knowledge for Resilience, Food Security and Environmental Sustainability

• Holistic Health: Mental Health, Nutrition and Urban Spaces and Health

For the period of 2022-2026, TICAH’s strategic goals are:

  1. Cultural and social barriers to equitable health and social outcomes are removed, especially for marginalised populations.

  2. Transformative change for social justice is realised through a greater and diverse network of cultural, artistic and social activists and actors.

  3. Our work is adopted and sustained by many diverse allies and partners.
