Support Literacy in Summit County
Every child deserves the joy and power of reading. The Rotary Club of Summit County has been championing literacy in our mountain community for decades — connecting kids with books, pairing students with reading mentors, and celebrating the writers among us.
Your donation helps us continue and grow these programs right here at home.
What Your Gift Supports
Rotary Summer Reads — Every spring, third graders across Summit County choose from 21 carefully selected books that reflect Rotary values. Each child receives their chosen book to keep, launching a summer of reading.
Literacy Grants for Summit Schools — Since 2012, we have partnered with the Summit Daily News to fund classroom literacy grants across the Summit School District, The Peak School, and Summit County Preschools — supporting bilingual libraries, learning centers, and more.
Reading Buddy Program — Volunteer readers are paired one-on-one with students at all six county elementary schools, offering encouragement and support to young readers as they build confidence and skill.
Intergenerational Storytelling Project — Students from The Peak School connect with adults at Timberline Adult Care Center to share stories, experiences, and perspectives — bridging generations through the power of narrative.
Family Literacy Fairs — Twice a year, in partnership with Early Childhood Options, FIRC, Colorado Mountain College, and Head Start, we provide free books to young children and their families at community literacy fairs.
Write the Rockies & Short Story/Poetry Contests — Each year we sponsor writing contests for students and adults, awarding thousands of dollars in prizes and celebrating the creative voices of our community in partnership with the Summit Daily News and Summit County Libraries.
Honorarium Books — In honor of every weekly club speaker, we donate children's books to local schools and libraries. We've contributed more than 540 books since 2008.
