St Nicholas Foundation is a UK registered charity set up in 2015 to fund and oversee the running of St Nicholas Preparatory School in Ghana. St Nicholas School was established in 2012 in Tema New Town, a sprawling slum located in Ghana's main port. The main aim of the school is to provide education and support to local underprivileged children and their families. The inspiration for the school came from the school's founder, Deborah Eleazar, who identified the need for a school whilst on business trips to Ghana. With her awareness of the endemic poverty in the area and the lack of educational facilities, Deborah raised money to buy land and create a building to house the first intake of pupils. Since then, a new class has been added each year in order to offer the full curriculum for the Ghanaian Primary Certificate of Education. The school has now reached it's maximum capacity of 180 pupils and with support from a local corporate donor (Metka) the site has expanded to include dedicated learning facilities incorporating classrooms, a computer lab and a library. There is also a fully equipped kitchen and dining room.
