Based in Geneva, Switzerland, the Simon Institute for Longterm Governance (SI) works to promote the responsible international governance of transformative technologies, with a focus on AI. We educate international civil servants and diplomats on emerging technologies and their risks, conduct research on the multilateral system's role in governing these technologies, and develop policy recommendations to strengthen international oversight.
SI was named after Herbert Simon (1916 - 2001), an American political scientist and Nobel-winning economist renowned for his insights into complex decision-making and organizational behavior, as well as his pioneering work in artificial intelligence.
