Life is full of challenges. This is especially true for those with special needs who must adapt to a world that doesn’t always adapt to them.

How you respond to those challenges shows the world who you are.

At Special Equestrians of the Treasure Coast, we give our students one, ultimate challenge: Build a relationship with a horse, regardless of your disability. Whether the student becomes a rider or takes ground lessons, they are asked to become partners with one of our horses and to embark on a journey that will be unforgettable.

Our center is a member of PATH Intl (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International), offering Equine-assisted Services, including adaptive horseback riding and ground horsemanship classes to individuals with physical, emotional and intellectual disabilities. In other words, we teach people with disabilities how to ride horses or how to take care of horses.

Research shows that horseback riding moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, thus helping improve flexibility, balance and muscular strength. Other benefits include:
~Improved large and fine motor skills
~Increased memory for sequencing patterns
~Increased focus and patience
~Improved communication skills
~Increased confidence
~Improved social skills

We invite you out to our center to experience in person exactly what we do. You’ll have an opportunity to see our facilities, participants, horses, instructors, and volunteers. We’re pretty sure you’ll want to come back.

We charge a minimal rider’s fee, yet even at that, some disadvantaged students could not benefit from our program were it not for help from generous donors like you. Donations of any amount make a huge difference, and your gift helps to ensure that no student is turned away due to an inability to pay.

We all like to give and for some, giving is a luxury. When you give, you want to make sure it is going to a credible organization that is doing the most good and spending the money wisely. Rest assured, your money actually goes to the program. Even 5 of our instructors are volunteers!

Special Equestrians is an established 501(c)3 in Indian River County, operating since 1992. The horse community knows us and the special needs community knows us.

We are an established PATH, Intl. Center member that has weathered the ups and downs of any non-profit. You can be sure your donation will go to a program that is safe and governed by an organization that knows what they are doing.

By helping us, it helps you. If you are a business, this is critical and we understand! We have set up our social media, website, events, and publications so that sponsors can optimize their contributions. Giving should be a win for everybody.

Our fundraising events are not just geared around raising money, but also to bring our community together and to have a good time doing it. Isn't that what it's all about anyway?
