Soi Dog Foundation (Soi Dog) was established in 2003 in Phuket, Thailand, to help the street dogs and cats who had no-one else to care for them. Over 70,000 strays roamed the island, with the numbers growing alarmingly due to a lack of spay and neuter programmes to control the population. Soi Dog was created to provide a humane and sustainable solution to managing the stray population and to address their medical needs. Funding then, as it does now, came entirely from individuals who shared, and continue to share, the vision of our founders.

We provide service dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities and facility dogs to professionals working in healthcare, criminal justice and educational settings. Since our founding in 1975, our dogs and all follow-up services are provided at no cost to our clients. Six service dog training facilities located in CA, FL, NY, OH and TX.

The San Francisco SPCA offers care and protection to animals in need, and we believe all cats and dogs (and the people who love them) deserve access to high-quality veterinary care. As the largest animal shelter in the San Francisco Bay Area and the first cageless animal shelter established in the U.S., we are transforming the way pet guardians and their beloved furry family members access lifesaving resources. At the SF SPCA, we are ensuring that access to care means access for all.

Through our public hospital, shelter hospital, and offsite community medicine clinics, we are reaching beyond ordinary care models to provide new, innovative pathways to service. Our Shelter and Adoptions teams rescue homeless animal, provide care, and adoptions services. We partner with shelters in the Central Valley as well as San Francisco Animal Care & Control to transport thousands of animals to the SF SPCA for medical care, behavioral services, and adoption. We also provide training and support – including telemedicine and emergency medical triaging – for our Central Valley shelter partners, most of whom do not have a veterinarian on staff. At our Adoptions Center, we offer an open adoptions process, with a goal of connecting animals with adopters who love them and inspiring a lasting bond for all. 

Lack of access to care is the most significant animal welfare crisis affecting both owned and unowned pets in the United States. Each year in California alone, thousands of pets are unable to access veterinary care which leads to surrender, illness, and death.

The San Francisco SPCA is committed rescuing and finding loving forever homes for homeless animals in San Francisco, reducing the number of new animals entering the shelter system throughout California, and working to ensure accessible veterinary care for all owned and homeless animals in San Francisco and across California.

NorCal Sheltie Rescue, Inc., a 501c(3) not-for-profit corporation, is an affiliate of the   American Shetland Sheepdog Association sponsored National Sheltie Rescue Network and is organized and run from the Sacramento area of Northern California. We serve Northern California from the Oregon border to Bakersfield, including the Bay Area and Central Coast.  We are an all-volunteer group made up of a network of Sheltie experts, adopters, foster homes, trainers, breeders, and Sheltie owners from all around Northern California. We do not have a central facility; our geographically diverse volunteer network locates, rescues, transports, fosters, evaluates, trains, and rehomes individual shelties on case-by-case basis. No volunteer receives any salary or financial benefit of any kind from NorCal Sheltie Rescue.  Operating costs are entirely funded by donations.

This corporation is a nonprofit public benefit corporation and is not organized for the   private gain of any person. It is organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for charitable purposes. The specific and primary purposed for which this corporation is formed are to provide prevention, information, education, and other charitable purposes against the cruelty to animals; contribute financial assistance to other similar organizations with similar purposes; be actively involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and placement for adoption of Shetland Sheepdogs (Shelties.)

We take in and place homeless Shelties in approved homes. We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome Shelties who have lost their homes for a variety of reasons. Rescue Shelties are first placed in volunteer foster homes to prepare them for adoption. Foster care includes vet exams, vaccinations, any necessary treatment, regular exercise, and temperament evaluation. Shelties are spayed or neutered prior to placement. NorCal Sheltie Rescue, Inc. screens and approves all applications prior to placing a rescue dog in a permanent home. Once the dog is placed, follow-ups are done to ensure that the match is successful for both the dog and the adopter.

Shelties are smart and sensitive, capable of performing in obedience, agility, herding, pet assisted therapy, conformation, fly-ball, tracking, and carting. They are eager learners whose only goal in life is to please their owners. They make wonderful  companions for those who don't mind their dense fur, which sheds and requires regular grooming, and their tendency to vocally comment on what's going on around them.  If you have a Sheltie you can no longer keep for any reason, please contact us. We will bring your Sheltie into foster care until a suitable home can be found.

We welcome any kind of support from $5 to five minutes of somebody’s time, to material goods, corporate support, grants and estate legacies.  All financial donations are used to support veterinary expenses and other costs incurred caring for rescue Shelties. Every day...
dogs in good health with wonderful personalities are euthanized. Why? Because they're older, and not considered adoptable. A dog is brought in because he can't jog with his guardian anymore. Or he needs a little time to get up the stairs. Or he’s simply not a puppy. In some cases, dogs are moved from loving homes to concrete cages because their guardians have died or simply can't care for them anymore.

We reach out to senior dogs at risk, give them the care they need, and find them loving forever homes. If we had our way, no dog would spend their last days in a shelter. There is so much love and joy in these dogs!
