POP Santa Fe is more than just a gym — it is a vibrant community hub created specifically for people living with Parkinson’s and their families throughout northern New Mexico. We believe that living well with Parkinson’s means more than managing symptoms. It means staying active, connected, informed, and engaged in the community. Our new facility will bring these elements together in one welcoming, accessible space where people can move, learn, connect, and find support.
Our facility will be purposefully designed around the unique needs of the Parkinson’s community. Open, spacious areas will provide room for a wide range of specialized fitness and movement classes, while allowing participants to exercise safely and comfortably at their own pace. Classes will focus on strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, mobility, cardiovascular health, and functional movement — all important components of maintaining independence and quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s.
POP Santa Fe is also proud to be a Rock Steady Boxing affiliate, offering Parkinson’s-specific boxing and fitness programming as part of our comprehensive approach to movement and wellness. Rock Steady Boxing has helped bring boxing-based exercise into the Parkinson’s community, providing participants with opportunities to work on strength, coordination, balance, agility, endurance, and confidence in a supportive group environment. As a Rock Steady affiliate, POP Santa Fe is able to incorporate this specialized approach into our broader fitness programming and give members another engaging way to stay active and challenge themselves.
Our boxing and fitness programs are about much more than the individual exercises. They are about showing participants what they can do, building confidence, and creating a sense of accomplishment. Whether someone is stepping into a boxing class for the first time or has been participating for years, our goal is to meet people where they are and help them continue progressing at their own pace.
But exercise is only one part of what POP Santa Fe offers. Parkinson’s can affect nearly every aspect of a person’s life, and the experience can sometimes feel isolating. That is why connection is at the heart of our organization. At POP Santa Fe, participants will have opportunities to build friendships, share experiences, encourage one another, and develop a sense of belonging with others who understand the Parkinson’s journey firsthand.
Our community room will serve as an important gathering place within the facility. It will provide a comfortable, welcoming environment for Parkinson’s support groups, caregiver meetings, group speech therapy, educational presentations, workshops, social gatherings, and other community activities. These programs will help participants and their families access information, resources, and peer support while creating opportunities for meaningful connection.
Education will also be an essential part of our programming. We envision bringing together professionals and community partners to provide information about Parkinson’s, exercise and movement, speech and communication, nutrition, mental and emotional wellness, caregiving, fall prevention, adaptive strategies, and other topics relevant to living well with Parkinson’s. By creating opportunities to learn from experts and from one another, POP Santa Fe can help individuals and families feel more informed and empowered to navigate the challenges of the disease.
Accessibility and inclusion are central to our vision. Not everyone living with Parkinson’s is able to travel to a facility regularly, and circumstances such as mobility limitations, transportation challenges, illness, weather, or caregiving responsibilities can make participation difficult. To help remove these barriers, POP Santa Fe will offer virtual options for classes, meetings, educational programs, and other activities whenever possible. Our goal is to ensure that people who are home-bound or unable to attend in person can remain connected to the community and continue participating in activities from wherever they are.
We also recognize that Parkinson’s affects more than the individual diagnosed with the disease. Spouses, partners, family members, and caregivers are an important part of the Parkinson’s community and often face their own physical, emotional, and practical challenges. POP Santa Fe will strive to create an environment where caregivers and family members feel welcomed and supported, with opportunities to participate in educational programs, support groups, social activities, and community events.
The new POP Santa Fe facility will also create a space where people can experience the positive effects of being part of a community that understands them. A diagnosis of Parkinson’s can bring uncertainty and change, but it does not have to define a person’s identity or limit their ability to live a rich and active life. Through movement, social connection, education, and peer support, we want to help people discover and maintain the strengths they already possess.
Our approach is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: movement is medicine, and community is strength. Regular, purposeful exercise can play an important role in helping people with Parkinson’s maintain mobility, strength, balance, confidence, and independence. At the same time, social connection can help combat isolation, create motivation, and provide the encouragement that makes it easier to keep showing up — both physically and emotionally.
POP Santa Fe is committed to creating an environment that is positive, energetic, inclusive, and free from judgment. Whether someone is newly diagnosed, has been living with Parkinson’s for many years, is highly active, or is facing significant mobility challenges, there will be a place for them in our community. We want every person who walks through our doors to feel seen, welcomed, and encouraged.
Our vision extends beyond the walls of the facility. We want POP Santa Fe to become a resource and gathering point for the broader Parkinson’s community throughout northern New Mexico. By bringing together exercise, specialized programs such as Rock Steady Boxing, wellness, education, peer support, and social connection, we can help create a stronger network for individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s.
Ultimately, POP Santa Fe is about possibility. It is about helping people continue to move forward — literally and figuratively — after a Parkinson’s diagnosis. It is about creating a place where people can challenge themselves, celebrate progress, make friends, find information, laugh together, and know that they are not alone.
Our goal is to establish POP Santa Fe as a leading center for Parkinson’s fitness, connection, and empowerment in northern New Mexico. We are building more than a facility; we are building a community where people living with Parkinson’s can stay active, engaged, and connected at every stage of their journey.
We believe movement is medicine.
We believe connection matters.
We believe community is strength.
And we believe that living with Parkinson’s should never mean living without purpose, possibility, or belonging.
