The Société Paul Cezanne—founded in 1998 by the artist's great-grandson, Philippe Cezanne, as a tribute to art historian, John Rewald, author of the artist's catalogue raisonne, first published in 1996—is dedicated to:

  • promoting and preserving the work of Paul Cezanne and the sites he painted in and around his native Aix-en-Provence,
  • maintaining the revised online catalogue raisonne, available to all for free at www.cezannecatalogue.com.

With the renovation of Cezanne's family home in Aix, the Jas de Bouffan, the Société is now seeking partners to help fund the creation of a new research center devoted to the artist, Le Centre Cezannien de Recherche et de Documentation, which will open in Summer 2025.

2025 is the year of Cezanne throughout Aix—from a major monographic exhibition at the Musee Granet to city-wide events, programs, and scholarly convenings, this year will mark a new chapter in the artist's ever-growing impact on people around the world.

In september 2025, "Odyssée Cezanne" a symposium with leading Cezanne specialists is as well open to subscription. 2 days of immersion in Paul Cezanne's restored family bastide, an opportunity to get a closer look to the Grand Salon where a wall painted by Cezanne as a young artist was discovered in august 2023!

These coordinated efforts, across academic and general audiences, will ensure Cezanne's legacy for generations to come, in all corners of the globe.

"Odyssée Cezanne Symposium”, Aix, Jas de Bouffan, Sept 25-26

The two-days « Odyssée Cezanne » symposium, led by Denis Coutagne, President of Paul Cezanne Society, officially launched and established the Cezanne Research and Documentation Center (CCRD) at the historic Farm du Jas de Bouffan. The Cezanne online catalogue raisonné, under the responsibility of Paul Cezanne Society since 2023, will also be managed from the Farm. The CCRD will serve as a dynamic space for research and documentation, with over 50 000 references. It will become the place where the catalogue raisonné and Cezanne’s legacy will be kept active and alive. Actual Cezanne’s curators and scholars, already members of the Société, will be joined by researchers and students to explore and preserve, under the leadership of the Paul Cezanne Society, Cezanne’s work for future generations. As a result, the town of Aix-en-Provence, where Cezanne spent most of his life and painted most of his pictures, is becoming the worldwide, recognized center for Cezanne studies. The goal to reach is at least 150 000$. U.S.-based donors can make tax-deductible contributions, because the American Friends of the Paul Cezanne Society is hosted by Myriad USA, a public charity, within the meaning of Sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) of the IRC, donors may claim the maximum tax benefits allowed by U.S. tax law for their contributions. Your contribution to “Odyssée Cezanne Symposium” will support essential initiatives such as the preservation of Cezanne’s archives, the expansion of the catalogue raisonné, and the development of educational programs that engage the next generation of Cézanne scholars at the Ferme du Jas de Bouffan. Thank you for your gift! Merci de votre généreuse donation!
