Since 1987, The Foundation has invested $125 million in 500+ organizations, creating a vibrant community of grantees, philanthropists, advocates, innovators, and change-makers.
We use an intersectional investing lens that seeks out community partners who center disability, racial, and gender justice in their work and approach. Our strategic priorities include economic and environmental justice, mental and physical health, safety, and reproductive justice, and civic engagement, democracy and leadership.
NYWF invests in hundreds of community-based non-profits across New York. Our experience shows that in addition to funding, they require leadership and capacity building training to build and sustain their organizations and movements. That is why NYWF acts as a non-profit incubator, providing a comprehensive package of assistance that provides leaders with opportunities to acquire the skills they need to build organizational infrastructure, lead with confidence, and manage their organizations’ finances.
As community partners learn new skills, they have the tools to ensure their organizations survive over the long term, making their neighborhoods healthier, safer, and economically secure. Opportunities include:
- Training, coaching, and resources provided free of charge by our technical assistance partners.
- Small grants to support specific capacity building needs not met by technical assistance offerings.
- Convening opportunities to exchange lessons and strategies with peers.
- Thought partnership with NYWF staff who serve as advisors and coaches.
