We believe that literacy is a dignity and freedom that every individual deserves.
When our neighbors can read and write, earn their GED, speak English fluently, and attain their citizenship, they gain the power to not only transform their own lives but also those of their family. This empowerment sets off a ripple effect, impacting generations to come, as our former students and their families increasingly contribute to our community and economy. At Learning Lab, our mission is to transform the lives of adults and families through personalized education. What began over thirty years ago with just four students and a handful of volunteers has now grown to serve over 450 students and engage 300 volunteers every year.
Last year alone, Learning Lab students represented 40 countries of origin, including from the United States. Each student brings their unique hopes, dreams, and goals to Learning Lab. Regardless of what our students' study, where they are from, or how they attend class, every Learning Lab student becomes part of a community founded on support, encouragement, and respect.
Unlike many educational institutions, Learning Lab does not receive Federal Funding. Instead, we depend on the incredibly generous support of community members to deliver high-quality education. As the sole organization in the Treasure Valley offering a holistic, family-centric approach to education and literacy, our work relies on the collective efforts of dedicated students committed to learning, volunteers generously sharing their time and skills, and neighbors contributing financially to keep our programs free and accessible to all. Whether you give time, talent, or treasure, your support makes you an integral part of the Learning Lab community.
A more literate community is a stronger, healthier, and more vibrant place to live, build and grow.
