Under the structure of the Museum of South West Jutland in Denmark, the Jacob A. Riis Museum is a museum established in a neighboring structure. This structure is in fact where Riis grew up before he left for America and became one of the most famous Americans at the end of the 19th century. He was a reporter in New York and showed the terrible conditions for the immigrants in the tenements. He is considered the 'father' of photo-journalism as he in the 1880s was the first to combine articles with photos. Later he was able to change legislation and improve living conditions for the poor.
