We are a small, mighty, impassioned board with the following mission: To commemorate the life and continue the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Coretta Scott King, by developing a memorial, programs and initiatives to honor the King Family and address issues of civil rights, world peace and economic equity for all. Our statue was unveiled in Allentown PA January 17th of 2011, and the Martin Luther & Coretta Scott King Memorial is the only statue memorial in the world dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife Coretta Scott King.
The day may have belonged to Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, but it was an Allentown civic leader who was at the forefront of many people’s minds. The leader was Harry A. Roberts, a longtime Allentown resident who dreamed of erecting a monument to the civil rights couple. Roberts’ vision came to fruition Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, when the long-awaited statue of the Kings was unveiled to a crowd of more than 100 people nearly three years after Roberts died.
