The Antonio Emanuele Augurusa Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating poverty and overcoming inequalities in all their forms. Based on the visionary legacy of young Antonio Emanuele Augurusa, the Foundation operates through the innovative paradigm of Generative Restitution, a methodology that evolves traditional "give-back" philanthropy into a systemic force for community empowerment. By fostering a world that values human development over mere profit, the Foundation works to build a "House of Peace" where every individual can thrive with dignity.
Our Story
Established in 2020 by the Augurusa family in the Southern Italian village of Filogaso, the Foundation is dedicated to the memory of young Antonio Emanuele. A child remembered for his extraordinary kindness, curiosity, and sincere love for others, Antonio tragically passed away at the age of 12, leaving a legacy that now drives the Foundation’s mission.
Through simple drawings, he envisioned a just and harmonious world he called the “House of Peace” (Casa della Pace). That vision continues to guide the Foundation today, inspired by the values Antonio embodied – Dialogue, Community, Transformation, and Charity.
At its heart, the Foundation exists to offer a permanent and universal response to “the poorest of the poor,” as Antonio himself desired. Its motto, Charitas Omnia Vincit – love conquers all – expresses the conviction that authentic and lasting change must arise from the heart.
Our Vision: building the House of Peace
To “build the House of Peace” means pursuing a dual goal:
- To make the world a true home for everyone.
- To enable every person to become an active and responsible member of the human family inhabiting that home.
This vision requires transforming social realities that generate deprivation, insecurity, and marginalization into spaces of refuge, opportunity, and shared responsibility. It also requires equipping individuals with the tools they need to become protagonists of change in their own lives and communities.
Our Mission: fighting poverty and overcoming inequality
The Foundation’s mission is rooted in a firm commitment to challenge the systemic economic, social and cultural imbalances that perpetuate poverty and inequality across the globe.
Central to this mission is the conviction that every individual has inherent potential and a fundamental right to a life of dignity, peace, and opportunity. For this reason, the Foundation focuses not only on alleviating immediate needs but on addressing the structural causes of exclusion and vulnerability. Our goal is to contribute to a world that is no longer subordinated to profit alone, but recognizes the multidimensional nature of integral human development – individual and collective.
To dismantle the multifaceted nature of inequality, the Foundation intervenes in the five areas where it is most deeply felt: Education, Social Inclusion, Sustainability, Culture, and Security.
Our Metholodology: the paradigm of Generative Restitution
To pursue its mission, the Foundation has developed an innovative methodological approach known as Generative Restitution.
This paradigm takes its cue from the traditional "give-back" philosophy but seeks to move far beyond it. Rather than adopting a purely assistential perspective, Generative Restitution engages entire communities in designing mechanisms of mutual care and empowerment. It views the community and the territory simultaneously as benefactors and beneficiaries of every intervention.
The model promotes the creation of networks of dialogue and collaboration among diverse stakeholders: small artisans and farmers, entrepreneurs and investors, public institutions, civil society organizations, academic bodies, and ecclesiastical communities. Each actor contributes according to their financial, strategic, and relational capacities to create shared value.
The “generativity” of this approach lies in its ability to transform a single positive intervention into virtuous and systemic circuits of social impact – sustainable, self-sustaining over time, scalable, and replicable in different contexts. Restitution thus acquires a multiplier and catalytic character, fostering continuous opportunity, development, and sustainability.
Our Flagship Model: Virtus Lab
The Foundation’s flagship model, Virtus Lab, embodies the principles of Generative Restitution in action. Its mission is to support individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds in accessing professional education and dignified employment.
Virtus Lab addresses one of the most pressing global challenges: the skills mismatch. Around the world, high youth unemployment coexists with a significant number of unfilled job positions due to gaps between available skills and labor market demands. This mismatch threatens economic prosperity and perpetuates cycles of inequality and social exclusion.
Virtus Lab bridges this gap by connecting companies seeking qualified employees with individuals seeking work opportunities. The program offers free professional training in high-demand roles, selected in partnership with companies committed to hiring graduates under fair and dignified conditions.
Beyond technical training, Virtus Lab provides comprehensive support services, including housing assistance, relocation support, community-building initiatives, and continuous professional guidance. The model operates through a collaborative platform that brings together public institutions, private companies, and non profit organizations.
Pilot implementations in Italy have already enabled more than 2,000 individuals to secure stable employment, with a success rate exceeding 90%. The model demonstrates how coordinated, community-based action can generate sustainable and replicable social impact.
Building on these results, the Foundation is working with international stakeholders to adapt and expand Virtus Lab to new regions and sectors, fostering economic inclusion and empowering marginalized communities worldwide.
