Every fence we build — nearly 4,000 since 2009 — represents a family navigating serious challenges. Each fence reveals the growing inequities in access to pet care across Oregon and beyond.
The fence itself is just the beginning.
It opens the door for us to provide other essential support — insulated dog houses, emergency veterinary care, vaccines and wellness care, spay/neuter services, pet food, supplies — and, most importantly, the chance to listen.
Our work brings us into the lives and yards of our most vulnerable neighbors. What we’ve learned is that chaining is rarely a first choice — it’s a last resort. Behind every dog on a chain, and every family struggling to access care, is a story of someone doing their best with what they have.
We see firsthand the painful impact of barriers to affordable veterinary care. The truth is, most of the pets who receive support from Fences For Fido have never seen a veterinarian before.
That’s where we step in — meeting families where they are, offering compassionate, practical solutions to help them better meet the needs of their pets, and bridging the gaps for those isolated from care.
Our circle of care extends beyond fences to include doghouses, monthly pet food, veterinary services, and supplies — giving pets the chance to live longer, healthier lives with the families who love them.
We see the systems that are failing families who want nothing more than to keep their pets safe and cared for. Fences For Fido stands as a prevention partner, offering community-driven solutions and a lifeline that keep pets and people together — where love meets need.
