This cultural project to promote the arts among the Maya and Zoque peoples of Chiapas, Mexico began in December of 2014. There is a dynamic cultural milieu in these traditionalist communities of Tsotsil, Tseltal, Ch'ol and other Maya languages spearheaded by young and mid-career creatives, all born in rural villages, active in painting, sculpture, photography and performance. MUY promotes outreach to the communities, trains in art, exhibits and publishes on Indigenous art for social justice, ecology, gender and diversity, and defense of the territory of and by Native Peoples. Our special projects include facilitating residencies for Maya/Zoque creators and virtual and live art-events toward sharing Indigenous aesthetics, wisdom and g/local empowerment and spiritual enrichment.
