World without hunger, poverty, and oppression

DanChurchAid (DCA) is an international, non-governmental and not for profit humanitarian organisation founded in Denmark in 1922. With the organisation's 100 year anniversary coming up, DCA is the oldest NGO in Denmark. DCA envisions a world without hunger, poverty and oppression, in which popular and political powers constantly work for a just and sustainable distribution and use of the earth's resources. As a faith-based organisation, our work derives from Christian values. Therefore, we show active compassion, share with the world's poorest, and help those in need. We act courageously when injustice is committed against people and when human rights are violated. In doing so we cooperate with a range of stakeholders including civil society organisations, faith-based actors and affected populations. Moreover, we are a strategic partner to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a member of ACT Alliance, a coalition of more than 130 faith-based organisations. International goals: Working across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus, DCA aims to achieve three strategic goals: As part of this process, all our operations builds upon a human rights-based approach and we work with a range of cross-cutting thematic areas such as gender justice, human rights, climate change, innovation, localization and food security. Additionally, we are fully committed to the Sustainable Development Goals, certified to the Core Humanitarian Standards and signatories to the Grand Bargain. Where we work and case studies from DCA's operations across the world: In total, we work in 19 countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East. In Palestine, Myanmar and Zambia we have a joint country programme with out sister agenciy from ACT Alliance, Norwegian Church Aid (NCA). In the following sections you can learn more about our work across different geographical areas and thematic contexts. Refugees In Northern Uganda , we provide life-saving support and livelihood assistance for South Sudanese refugees. Our support ensures that refugees not only get the opportunities they need to live a dignified life, but also that the environment is not damaged by the massive influx of refugees. Together with our local partner Raising Gabdho Foundation, DCA supports the supply of fire briquettes produced from kitchen waste . The briquettes are cheap, safe to use and climate friendly as they prevent the deforestation of nearby forests , thereby having a long-term, sustainable impact for the refugee population and the environment . We also work with refugees in Bangladesh , where we support the Rohingya refugees seeking shelter in Cox's Bazar as well as the local communities who host them. The programme in Cox's Bazar presents an integrated response focusing on education for adolescent girls and women, protection and response against gender-based violence, livelihood support and site improvement to support camps against natural hazards. Mine Action Every hour, one person either dies or becomes severely damaged from landmines or explosive remnants of war. This adds up to more than 8500 victims annually, of which 40% are children. For this reason, mine action remains a major priority for DCA. Amongst others, we work with mine clearance and provide mine risk education in Myanmar . In 2018, Myanmar had the highest number of landmine casualties worldwide following Yemen, Syria, and Afghanistan. See the brief video about Saw Pee Tee and how DCA works in Myanmar , to learn more about our landmine operations and mine risk education efforts. As patron for DCA, her Royal Highness Princess Marie has helped strengthen the focus on mine clearance operations. At the People's Political Festival on Bornholm in 2018, Princess Marie took part in a demonstration of how DCA removes landmines and other explosive remnants of war. Recently, we have helped prepare the most vulnerable people across the globe for the COVID-19 pandemic , and currently, we are supporting the victims of the Beirut Blast , which has left more than 300,000 people homeless overnight.
