Centre Yennenga's missions cover cinematographic training in post-production, creation, distribution and diffusion. It is the first hub dedicated to cinema based in Dakar, Senegal. It also has a socio-cultural mission by democratizing cinema and raising awareness on how images can shape our visions to the world. By creating the first post-production studio in Dakar and the first free training program dedicated to post-production jobs, the Yennenga Center gives filmmakers the opportunity to produce their films from A to Z on the continent and thus address the crucial issues of self-narration. Post-producing films in Dakar is therefore also a way to reduce the production costs of a film and we can imagine that this will eventually contribute to boosting independent film production on the continent, without it being dependent on external funds that only allow the onerous costs associated with post-production of films abroad.

Make films from A to Z in Africa

Our goal is to achieve independency of African films. Because we believe that to create images and representation of oneself, is a necessary condition for: one's dignity, for the consideration that populations have of themselves, for their possible emancipation. To achieve this independence, we must acquire the tools and skills that would allow the production of films from-- A to Z, then their distribution. Located in the facilities of the Socio-Cultural Center of Grand Dakar, the Yennenga Center became the official Cinema pole of the city of Dakar. • A two-year free training program in postproduction which will lead to the first generation of trained professionals of West Africa ready to be lead technicians in their areas. Since October 21, we are hosting 28 students coming from 6 different African countries. This first cohort studying 3 specialities Image Editing, Sound Editing - Mixing and Color Grading. Some of these students will be taught to become trainers for the next cohort. • An educational program where we host workshops, debates, films screening for all sorts of audiences. It offers a program articulated around social issues intended to fuel the debate. Our goals are here to use cinema as a tool to reflect on ourselves and to each other and to give the floor to the local population to discuss political, socio-cultural or all sorts of topics. The programs are organized as regular gatherings, which combine the screening of films with meetings, debates, and all kinds of events. Special attention is given to young audience by giving workshop on image education and short film screening.
